Robin Hood airport, one of England's newest airports.
Firstly it's name. There seem to be a fashion for naming airports after local legends. John Lennon at Liverpool, George Best at Belfast, but Robin Hood at Doncaster???
Once you are over that apparent odd choice of name what about the airport itself.
It is the former RAF Finningley and as a former RAF base it did come with an excellent runway, but no proper terminal building.
It was a bold step to turn it into a commercial airport and although a new terminal has been built the facillities are not yet up to a main airport standard.
Having said that the terminal building, while not being luxurious is perfectly acceptable with basic shopping outlets and eating places.
Another slight disadvantage is that RAF bases tended to be built in the middle of nowhere. It is easily accessable from the A1M and M18 motorways, and there are bus services from Doncaster and Worksop but it does have that feeling when you travel to it that it is in the back of beyond.
One big advantage it has is that the car parks are very close by, no being bused from your car park and hanging around, you are within easy walking distance of the terminal.
The airport is used mainly by holidays companies and the cheaper end of the scheduled market Ryanair, FlyBe etc.
There are plans for expansion and despite the current downturn in the holiday market it should hopefully go from strength to strength.
If you live in the area don't be afraid of giving it a try, I have flown from there on a number of occaisions and I have been more than happy with it.

Summary: A small airport well worth flying from
