Roma Ciampino houses about 95% of the budget flights from around Europe and is therefore the most likely place you'll arrive if you are visiting Rome, unless of course you are wealthy - in which case, you are unlikely to be reading and reviewing on dooyoo! Ciampino is pretty dull as far as airports come, it didn't take long to get into the main hall and my stay there was really short but I did go for a wee, so I can say that the toilets were spotless and very roomy - in fact I recall a strong bout of "make your mind up time", as I was faced with the possibility of so many urinals. I am a frequent customer of Ciampino airport and use it at least once per year if not more. Ciampino is a military airport that also has commercial flights and was Romes major airport before Fiumicino was built and is about 12 - 15 km from the center of Rome. === Getting there === Ciampino is not terribly well connected as far as airports go and could be better. To get to the train station of Ciampino there is a bus service that runs at random times, it doesn't run at every 15 minutes or 30 minutes like you would expect but seems to run by when there is a plane and when there is not though I'm not sure if thats how its supposed to work. ... Rome has two international airports but you don't usually get a choice of which to fly into or out of - if it's a budget flight you're on, it's almost guaranteed that this will be the one you use. Although Caimpino is within the city limits of Rome, taxis to and from the place attract a surcharge. A typical one-way fare is 50 Euros including tip, or about 30 GBP, for a 20-30 minute trip. This isn't cheap so, if you arrive or depart during the day, public transport might be a better option. From the center of the city, you can take the underground (line A) until Anagnina, and then the CORTAL bus to the airport itself. This is only an option ... Read the complete review
