Advantages: Cheap connections
Disadvantages: Bit dull
Roma Ciampino houses about 95% of the budget flights from around Europe and is therefore the most likely place you'll arrive if you are visiting Rome, unless of course you are wealthy - in which case, you are unlikely to be reading and reviewing on dooyoo!
Ciampino is pretty dull as far as airports come, it didn't take long to get into the main hall and my stay there was really short but I did go for a wee, so I can say that the toilets were spotless and very roomy - in fact I recall a strong bout of "make your mind up time", as I was faced with the possibility of so many urinals.
Having made my choice and done the shake and back, I was outside the airport looking for the bus which headed for Termini. It wasn't marked, so I just chose a bus stop and then I was asked about 20 times by other people whether it was the correct bus stop but became obvious it was when the bus eventually turned up. I think we must have just missed it because we waited about 30 minutes, oh if only I'd used a urinal closer to the door perhaps we would have made it!
The bus then took about 40 minutes to get to the main train station - Roma Termini. The bus cost 8 Euros in one direction for one person, the return ticket at 12.60 makes good sense - but only if you are flying out of the same airport!
Apart from the wide range of toilets and lack of much else, there is little in the way to talk about when it comes to this airport. It's quite personalityless but it's relatively close to the centre and cheap to fly in to - so who cares!
