Salzberg - not for airport shoppers (Salzburg Airport)

This is one of the smallest airports I have ever been to.

The scenery as soon as you land is amazing and when you look around all you can see encircling the airport are mountains - how on earth does the pilot manage it - I'm sure they are really miles away but it seems really close.

You will probably end up taking one of the worlds shortest coach connections into the terminal - 30 seconds if that!!

Once inside the glass building there is a short queue for passport control and you are straight into the baggage handling area - We diddn't have to wait long for our bags and they cam out well spaced so that you are not all getting in each others way.

On the way back be prepared - there are very few catering facilities at the airport - only really extended coffee shops - there is even less choice when you go through security as there is one cafe and a smallish - and expensive duty free shop. Unless you want the convenience of buying in the airport I would buy stuff before you get to the airport - we bought some milka chocolate in a small shop in resort for 2.35 Euros and the same chocolate was over 5 Euros in the duty free shop. So if you find a supermarket you can probably get it even cheaper.

There are a few shops on the concorse, a newsagents, coffee shop, crystal shop but no large shops. If you want that airport shopping extravaganza then this isn't the airport to do it in.

The airport is really easy to see where to check in as there are so few desks and bulky luggage needs a short walk around the side of the desks.
