Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN)

Description: Incheon International Airport (IIA) (IATA: ICN, ICAO: RKSI) (Korean: 인천국제공항, ... more
Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN) ... Hanja: 仁川國際空港) is the largest airport in South Korea, and one of the largest in Asia. Incheon International Airport is the hub for Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, and Cargo 360. The airport opened for business in early 2001, replacing the international function of the old Gimpo Airport (formerly Kimpo International Airport). Gimpo Airport now serves only domestic destinations, except flights to Haneda Airport in Tokyo. The airport serves as a hub for international civilian air transportation and cargo traffic in East Asia. Security facilities are state-of-the-art and medical inspection equipment is also very advanced, in response to terrorist threats and various epidemics in southern Asia. As a result, Incheon International Airport is considered Asia's most technologically facilitated airport. The 2005 AETRA passenger survey, jointly administered by the IATA and Airports Council International, voted it the best airport in the world.

There are bars where you can a little taste of Korea (if you haven't been travelling on Korean Airlines already) in the form of sweet-tasting little dried fish snacks. The transfer terminal waiting area looks out westward, so if you're there in the evening you can ... more

You are travelling to Seoul Incheon Airport? If you're arriving from Europe and not disembarking in Korea itself, presumably it's for some sort of protracted transfer stay between flights? Well in that case there's good news and bad news. It's a lovely airport - clean and bright and well maintained, with good facilities, especially if you're travelling with kids, for there are a number of play areas where the little 'uns can while away the hours. So here I am - in Korea. Im at Incheon Airport on a 4 hour transit awaiting a flight to Sydney, so I thought I would share some thoughts. It's bloody big this airport. That could be because it's half empty, and when full if people it will shrink a bit. It's also brand spanking shiny new - and it WORKS!! ( unlike Heathrow last night which, really and trully, is falling apart at the seams) I'm sitting in a coffee bar near gate 59, using one of the free computer terminals. OK - so the keyboard is is Japanese, but it's free. That's free as in doesn't cost a penny ( or even a won, of which there are 1200 to the US$). ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN): Incheon International Airport-A Vast Improvement. (746 words)

Comparing Seoul's new international airport to Kimpo, it's predecessor, is a little like discussing the relative merits of Prague and Peterborough. The improved gateway to Korea, which opened on March 29th 2001, is truly an airport in the international class of Amsterdam's Schipol, Hong Kong's Chek Lap Tok and Osaka's Kansai. Indeed, the Korean authorities seem to have ripped-off(or should that read been inspired by?) a lot of the innovations of the aforementioned airports: one giant terminal building(an expensive glass structure that is supposed to have the appearance of a "winged city", check-in facilities that are an exact replica of Chek ...  Read the complete review
