Advantages: Smaller and less hetic than Gatwick/Heathrow

Disadvantages: Fewer destinations.

Southampton Airport is Situated only 1 mile from Eastleigh town centre, and adjacent to both junction 5 of the M27 and Southampton Parkway rail station. This is a great little Airport and after flying out of Southampton on a number of occasions I would thoroughly recommended this relaxing start to your journey. Check in and security checks take no longer than five minutes and because it is such a small airport it is only a short walk to the departure lounge. Before the security and check in area there are a couple of places to eat and shop, Aura where you can purchase Starbucks coffee, Delice de France pastries, 'Grab n Go' sandwiches, baguettes and panini. As well as also having a licensed bar with snacks. WHSmith is also available as well as a shop called Lagenza who sell items such as jewellery and soft toys. After the security and check in areas there is another Aura restaurant, a WHSmith and importantly a duty free shop. There is a small clothes shop called T-Box who sell items of clothing which are then uniquely packaged into small parcels for your journey. Once into the departure area there a small number of departure gates each with their own small lounge areas where you can wait for your flight. There are no night flights at Southampton airport but there were still 1.96 million passengers in 2007 with flights to over 43 destinations and 15 airline and tour operators. Overall Southampton is a great little airport situated with good links for both car and rail and with plenty of car parking space (at a cost) it really was for us a good way to start our holiday.

Summary: Making air travel easy.
