Advantages: Clean, modern, easy to get to

Disadvantages: No moving walkways

Stockholm Arlanda airport is situated about 40 km North of the city of Stockholm. You can get there by taxi, train or bus and there are also plenty of parking spaces both short and long term at reasonable rates. Taxis cost about 400 SEK to Stockholm, the train 190 SEK (although there are often two for one special prices so check online here - http://www.arlandaexpress.com/ - before you buy) and buses about 85 SEK. If you don't get help from the taxi offical, check the price with the taxi driver before you leave the terminal - in a country well-known for honesty some taxi drivers seem to be real pirates!

There are the usual car hire firms which are reached by a short, free bus ride.

If you fly there by BA from the UK you will land in Terminal 2. This is a compact terminal and the distance from the gate via passport control and the baggage hall to the arrivals hall is quite short - about 3 minutes at a normal pace - and is level - no stairs to climb or descend.

If you fly with SAS then you will land at the distant arm of Terminal 5 and this is a much longer walk - I reckon that it takes about 10 minutes and involves several changes of level (some with escalators or lifts). There are no moving walkways here so it is something to bear in mind if you have problems walking.

The terminals thenselves are modern, clean and bright. They are rarely crowded, but sometimes the check-in queues can be long. There are plenty of electronic check-in machines, so try to get an e-ticket if possible and avoid the queues.

When flying from Arlanda after checking in and pasing security, there are only a few shops and they have have a limited range of products - duty free alcohol is only sold to passnegers with non-EU destinations.

Similarly there are only a few restaurants and bars so this is not the place to be stuck waiting for a delayed flight. However if, after checking in you don't rush past security, then you can explore Sky City - a mini shopping mall situated between Terminals 4 and 5 - with some fancy stores and a few more restaurants.

Summary: Good ground transportation, not crowded
