Sydney (Kingsford Smith) International Airport (SYD) ... suburb of Mascot. It is the major airport serving Sydney, and is a major hub for Qantas. Sydney Airport is the world's oldest continually operated commercial airport, and the busiest commercial airport in Australia, handling in excess of 30 million passengers per year (2006), which is expected to rise to over 68 million by 2020. Situated next to Botany Bay, Kingsford Smith has three runways, colloquially known as the "East-West" and two "North-South" runways. In terms of land area, it is the smallest capital city airport in Australia.

This airport is one of the cleanest and most efficient i have been too. Once off the plane you have a short walk to immigration and customs and before you get there you have the chance to do some duty free shopping in the massive shop. Immigration are very good and make sure you fill out your card correctly and answer the questions truthfully - i know that may shoud obvious but they will come down so hard on people who dont complete them correctly and a fine is not the best way to start you hols! I arrived at Sydney airport on a working holiday, you get off the plane and are greeted by friendly immigration staff, the bags came after about 10 minutes which is really quick, I was greeted by the Agricultural affairs gentlemen and he asked if I had any food, I showed him my Bio Rumblers pot that was given on the plane and he was happy for me to have this which was great especially since it was Dairy. The image of Sydney airport was really nice and clean with blue olympic themed carpets. Sydney's Kingsford Smith International Airport (SYD) is a fine facility, with a logical layout, modern interior, and comfortable traveler friendly facilities. With public transport connections to the center of the city through both the 'Airport Link' trains and an Express Bus service, the 9km trip is only 20minutes or so away, depending on the mode of transpor used. The airport is six miles (9 km) south of the centre of Sydney. There is a traveler's information service in the arrivals hall open from 5:30 A.M. to 11 P.M. Taxis are available with metered fares. The fare to the center of Sydney is about 18-20 Australian dollars. Travel time ranges from 15 to 30 minutes.
