This is a fantastic compact product which is deal for use at home. Its a sturdy piece of kit whallows you to scan, copy and print all in one. The machine itself is solid, looks good and whats more is very compact.
Not being very technically savy I was alittle anxious about setting up a new printer. But I found this printer really easy to set up, and comes with everything you need including a USB cable. It comes with all the instructions you need to set up the printer. You can print from anywhere in your home with the use of WIFI which is perfect if you want the printer set up in a seperate room from where your working. The printer allows you to connect to your computer, laptop or tablet - which we have all three connected and it works perfectly without the need to readjust settings etc. Printing written documents or small photos where fantastic quality.
Ive read it also supports AppleAir time - Although we havent used this yet, if its anyhting like the ease of the other mediums then im sure this will also be really easy to set up and use.
Downside - The printer cartridges are a little expensive, but they do last a very long time. Printing photos in large format can cause the picture to go a little grainy but this also depends upon the quality of the photo youre printing from.
With both of us working from home we wanted a device which could handle the work load and this is certainly something you can rely on. We're extremely happy with our purchase.
My old printer decided to choose the start of school, when I need it most, to decide it had enough and died. I was as you can imagine frustrated, and not having access to a great deal of money, needed a cheap and reliable option. I also required it to be compact to fit on my shelves. I thought I was asking a lot.
I browsed online but could not decide. So I went out to PC World, and was looking at the bottom end options when this printer caught my eye. It cost £49.99 and came with a set of inks one black and one colour. The printer takes PG-540 and CL-541 inks. You have a choice of two colours white or black. I opted for the black. They are gloss finish and look very sleek.
The quality was evident straight off, the casing was sturdy unlike the other printers in this price range, I opened up the scanner and the hinges seemed strong and the lid wasn't wobbly like I have found on other all-in-one printers. It is Wi-Fi which is a fantastic bonus. The Wi-Fi was simple to setup, although it isn't plug and play. You need to connect your pc to the printer and use and install disc which is all self-explanatory, although does take a bit of time, but very simple. This is a Wi-Fi 'n' CERTIFIED printer. It is a two ink cartridge printer but for me that is fine.
I have found the inks rather expensive at around £25.00-£30.00 to replace both, but saying that they do last longer than my old HP printer inks. You can also purchase larger inks at small additional charge of around £5.00-£10.00 but I have never tried these so am unable to comment. The ink cartridges are incredibly easy to insert and replace, simply open the front panel and slot them in. The print quality is excellent, the print speed being 9.2 ipm mono & 5.0 ipm colour, not that I use it for photos very often. Because this printer is a pixma the print quality is great. The photo prints are good, 10 x 15 cm (4" x 6") photo printed in approximately 44 seconds, with a resolution of 4800 dpi. I have had absolutely fantastic results from this printer. The printer is also surprising quiet when printing too.
You are also able to capture and print stills from movies; however I have not used this facility.
This printer has the added facility of printing direct from memory or flash card or scan to them, which can save lots of time.
There is the added ability of the Canon MP Navigator EX software so that you are able to convert hard copy documents to searchable PDFs and also add a password.
The scanner is in the usual place on top and you simple lift the lid access it. Scanning quality is excellent, 1200 x 2400 dpi. It scans exceptionally fast and I was extremely impressed with the quality.
The cord is about three metres long, which I personally would have prefered to have been longer for convenience. The wire is simply plugged into back. The paper is inserted in the front at the bottom; pull down front panel and pull out the clip to place paper on. The instructions are extremely clear and straight forward.
The printer is compatible with XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Mac os10. However it has no blue-tooth facility or Ethernet connection and has no memory card slot, but you can print from a smart phone, which is a useful option.
Overall this has been one of the best printers I have purchased and have had absolutely no complaints so far. The printer is fantastic value for money, this printer is suitable for both family use and for students, and I would highly recommend it.
