Advantages: Lots of functions, good manual, prints really good quality documents
Disadvantages: Doesn't come with a USB cable and ink can be quite exspensive
Over the years I've tried a few different printers, however they've all let me down in one way or another, like being too slow, jamming or just not doing the job right! I bought this printer because it is an all in one, so it prints, scans and copies things. Also, being a Canon, I thought it'd have good picture quality.
The printer itself is quite large, perhaps a bit bigger than the average printer, however is relatively compact when you think about how much it does! It has a grey and black exterior, with 9 buttons and some lights on the front. It has a lift top (to reveal the scanning 'screen') and the whole top unit lifts again in order for you to be able to change the ink cartridges.
The set up is simple really, as long as you follow the disk you're given and the step-by-step manual to setting it up and getting your ink cartridges installed, it's fairly straightforward and easy!
I've used all 3 functions (print, scan and copy) and they all work marvellously! To copy all you do is select how many copies, the size and whether it's in colour or black and white and press 'scan' and you're ready to go, its so simple!
Scanning is a bit more tricky, you have to use some software that came with it to choose what type of item you're scanning (colour photo, black and white photo, text, etc.), but then all you have to do is click scan and it imports it to a folder for you. The scan quality is really good too!
Printing is great, obviously some of the quality is also down to the paper you use, but it prints colours and black and white well.
Changing cartridges is also so simple - when you see the warning like for b (black) or c (colour) on the printer, all you do is lift the top, push down on the cartridge to release it, and click in a new one! After you've changed a cartridge there are no messy 'smudge' lines and it resumes printing as perfectly as before.
One of the only problems is that it doesn't come with the USB to attach the printer to the computer, which is a pain if you didn't know that there wasn't going to be one included, and ink can be quite expensive. However, all in all it's a great printer to have and it hasn't let me down yet!
Summary: A great printer to have!
