Advantages: Fast scanning, good quality printing, easy to use software included.
Disadvantages: Replacement ink cartridges may be expensive.
I picked up this printer mostly because it was on sale and I needed a printer and a scanner and this would save me space rather than having 2 units. Also my last printer was an older black and white laser one that still used the big parallel port which my desktop doesn't have.
Setup is relatively easy, with the instructions being clear and including large diagrams to follow. Install the ink cartridges that come with the printer, install the software, then connect the computer to the printer and it's there. Printing is fast and clean with good definition and the paper is supported on the infeed and outfeed with fold out sections that mean when you'r not printing the unit is effectely sealed against small foreign objects falling into the back of it and it looks compact and neat. The cartridges included last for a decent enough time but when they need replaced they are not the cheapest to find unfortunatly.
The scanner is very high quality, with the user interface onscreen being easy to understand and use. If you scan in more than one image thumbnails appear representing all that you've scanned in, and then it is possible to select the ones you want and save them as a multi-page PDF file, by default everything is selected. This process is again, very easy, with only a few clicks needed and the bare minimum of options to go through. Scanning itself is fast.
Copying is also fast and can be done without connecting to the computer (after turning on for the first time it needs to be connected to ensure the printheads are aligned but after that it can done independantly) with all the controls being on the top face of the unit. These are again, clear and easy to understand, with the larger ones containing symbols as well as text above them. User feeback in this mode is through the small LCD screen above the controls. Although this may be small for some folk, it is also angled slightly so you don't have to lean over the unit to see it. Selecting how many copies are to be made, if you'r copying in black and white or full colour and all these options are easy to change or select using the right button. Finally the power button lights up, clearly showing if the unit is on or off.
I personally have never printed from memory card can't really comment on that unfortunaltly.
Summary: Aside from the expensive cartridges an excellent buy for those wanting an all in one printer.
