I got this printer about 2 months ago, and wanted to write a bit about it.
"Canon Pixma MP490 ... photos, documents and more? The PIXMA MP490 delivers 4800 x 1200 maximum color dpi, 2pl and the PG-210 Black and CL-211 Color FINE ink cartridge system for superb overall print quality."
The bit above is a bit of blurb about the printer and what it can do, but this is my opinion. I use this printer a LOT for printing out readings for uni, essays, and for scanning in books and other pieces of information I either need to remember or don't want to lose. And I have to admit that this printer is pretty good.
A few printers with scanner/copier built in can be slow or hard to use, or do substandard scans that translate to substandard prints, but this is really good. It scans in information pretty quickly (one long scan gets in all the information and no need for extra passes) There is a scan menu in the main menu, but I found it easier and quicker to use the included scanner software which also has the ability to scna in stuff and save as .jpg or .pdf files, with the last being perfect for long documents.
The paper out tray automatically opens when the printer turns on, so there's no need to open it, just wait for it to do it and leave it enough space. The printer can print from a computer or USB stick/memory card, and is also compatible with Macs, so it's a versatile piece of kit. The software is easy to install and to use, with the ability to cancel/delete print jobs with only a minimum delay, so perfect if a mistake is made. It also prints last page first, so the print job is in the correct order and ready for stapling.
The only problem I've found is that it takes a lot of ink, and can run through cartridges pretty quickly, but the cartridges are well priced and easily available online and offline.
