      Very helpful

      Avoid like the plague.

As a first reviewer of this model, I suppose the pressure is on!

Basically, this all in one printer-copier-scanner was offered to us at a discounted price when we purchased a new computer. We accepted the offer, and like many relationships with technology, it started promisingly.

In terms of expectations being met, it initially did exactly what we hoped. The control panel is easy enough to operate (although it may be a challenge to the less computer savvy), while the loading of paper and ink is also quite straighforward. Installation is far from a drama, and the actual results (provided you have the right ink) are relatively pleasing.

The copier copies quickly and effectively, while the scanner is of a high quality, and appears as a jpeg format picture in the appropriate folder on the computer.

Printing can be done via the tray at the front or back, and a simple button on the control panel allows you to choose which.

Like all relationships though, the honeymoon period comes to an end and soon problems inevitably begin. Refilling the ink is a nightmare. It costs a lot. I know this is not specific to just this model, but it is a major offputting factor. Worse still, you're not allowed to print if a single cartridge runs done. For example, if cyan is out, and black is still relatively full, you will not be permitted to print, even despite having an abundance of black.

Furthermore, as time goes on, so does the quality of the prints decrease.
This is also quite quickly followed by more basic problems.

Despite maintaining this printer well through the last 2 years, and always following instructions to a 't', it is now virtually unusable. It eats pages, throws up inexplicable errors, and takes about 15 minutes to start up.

When it finally does print, quality is awful, and it reminds me of a throwback to 80's printers that took half a day to print a single sheet.

It is no exaggeration to say that two sheets of paper take 20 minutes, including printing time, inevitable error and restart time, and the also inevitable failed attempts. It is a nightmare, and would drive anyone crazy. And all this, after doing nothing but caring for it.

In summary, it is an older model now, so you probably won't be purchasing in any case - but if you do get the chance to: DON'T. It'll start well, but it'll end horribly.

In saying that, this is the experience I - and many people - have with printers in general.
