Canon Pixma MP630
Advantages: great colour
I had a Canon MP210 for a long time after buying it on a cheap deal. Basically, it had a known design fault and it broke, having picked it up for about £30 anyway, I wasn't too upset. However, the print quality was so good on the Canon that I immediately started researching other Canon printers.
My printing style:
I print all documents in grayscale.
I print a lot of colour photographs.
The printer is also a scanner and photocopier. It does not have a fax in it. The printer itself is quite large and bulky and takes up quite a lot of room on a desk which is definitely something to consider when purchasing this item. The printer has a card reader on it, but as I have never used it I can't comment on it. It also has a digital display which allows you to select what function you want e.g. print, scan, photocopy etc. This is easy to use and clear to read.
The printer takes the new generation canon inks e.g. Five cartridges: small black, big black, cyan, yellow and magenta and if one runs out the printer will not print, you have to replace that one tank before it continues. This can be quite annoying!
The cheapest place I have found for these inks is on amazon, a set of five will set you back about £40 but they do last a really long time given that I print LOADS of photos on this printer, I would say that they last about 3 or 4 months and I probably print at least one or two photos per day.
The printer has 2 trays which is convenient, one is a casette in the bottom of the printer and the other is a rear tray, this allows you to have both photo paper and plain paper in the printer at the same time which I think is a nice touch.
The colour on the printer is outstanding, really true to life even on the very worst photopaper. I believe the better quality photo paper the better your photo will print out.
One thing I do wish I had bought is the slightly upgraded version which was wireless as I could have moved it away from my desk, however I'm sure I'll do that next time I buy a printer and it doesnt detract too much from this great little item.
