I found the task of changing cartridges simple, and was happier with having three separate colour cartridges rather than one large multicolour cartridge, and found it far more economical on ink usage , the reason being that not all the colours run out at the same time, so in the multicoloured cartridges, as soon as ONE colour runs out the whole cartridge has to be replaced. My first Epson printer was a single function Photo 790 I still have it and it still works. However, I wanted one that I could use as a scanner, and a photocopier as well as one to print documents from my computer. I popped along to PC World and looked at all the multi-function printer options available. There was a special offer on the Epson DX5000, so I looked more closely at that model. I don't exactly hate this printer, but I would not recommend it to anyone, for a number of what I think are rather important reasons. It's ink usage is pretty terrible. I bought this printer as the ink seemed atleast somewhat reasonable, and could be purchased in four separate process colours. I figured it would be easy to change one without having to change them all. It has small cartridges with tiny amounts of ink. The cartridges run out astoundingly quickly. It turned out not to be good value at all. If any ink colour runs out, you cannot print at all. I would love the option to print the document in whatever colour(s) it can, but it just tells ... I purchased this printer about 3 months ago from Ebay. It only cost me £20! After my previous experience with Epson printers i was willing to buy a better one second hand to save some money. This really is an easy to use printer offering a 3-in-one system to its users, a printer, scanner and color or black and white photocopier with no meet to be attached to a pc. To save money on ink cartridges i purchased a very cheap CIS (Continous INk) Sysyem from Ebay for just £20, filled with ink.
