Advantages: Reliable and economical. A four in one lightweight printer.

Disadvantages: It doesn't make tea and needs telling twice to print A5

My first Epson printer was a single function Photo 790 I still have it and it still works. However, I wanted one that I could use as a scanner, and a photocopier as well as one to print documents from my computer.

I popped along to PC World and looked at all the multi-function printer options available. There was a special offer on the Epson DX5000, so I looked more closely at that model. It did not take me long to decide that this was exactly what I needed. It even had a comprehensive user manual.

Having previously experienced the quality and reliabilty of Epson printers, I was confident that it would meet my requirements.
I had considered a laser printer in preference to ink jet, but was informed by experts in the field that you do not always get accurate colour reproduction of photographs, because laser cartridges are powder filled colours which do not mix as accurately as inks. Perhaps they have improved since then.

I am very pleased with the quality of printing. The photocopying facility produces an excellent copy of an original document.

The scanner is also a useful facility which transfers data from the original into computer files.

Additional features are: (1) The ability to connect a digital camera directly to the printer and print off a photo, without having to first download it into the computer memory. Ideal for people who do not have or want a PC.
(2) You also can print directly from a memory card.
(3) The document cover can be removed so that book pages can be scanned or copied.

The Epson may (to some) appear large or bulky, but in reality it takes up less room than the three separate machines it replaces.

I found the task of changing cartridges simple, and was happier with having three separate colour cartridges rather than one large multicolour cartridge, and found it far more economical on ink usage , the reason being that not all the colours run out at the same time, so in the multicoloured cartridges, as soon as ONE colour runs out the whole cartridge has to be replaced. I admit to using the cheaper compatable cartridges and so far have not experienced trouble or reduction in quality of prints.

The only criticism I have is that (as I experienced with my other Epson printer) when I want to print an A5 size paper, the first printout is A4unless I can halt the print process before the printing begins. The second and subsequent attempts are fine.

Other than that I am well pleased with my Epson.

Summary: A modestly priced multi-functional printer. Accurate , efficient and small enough to fit on a desk

hope that doesn't come across too rude. just didn't appreciate it massively, but i will assume you were trying to help. thankyou for the advice on the wonkey paper, but i will disregard your other comments. i'm amazed you have had no trouble with compatible cartridges. i had to throw mine out.

you don't rate a review low because you don't agree. i wrote the experience i had with my printer. i did not appreciate being spoken down to.
