I decided to buy this shortly after my old Epson printer stopped printing correctly. As a person who is conscious about wasting money, I buy my ink cartridges in bulk so I had lots of ink cartridges left from my latest order. Therefore, I had to buy a replacement printer which used the same ink cartridges as my previous printer was discontinued.
Being lucky, I found this Epson Stylus DX7450 on Ebay at a price of £20. The printer itself is 6 kg as stated on the website. I personally don’t mind this as I leave it on the desk and never have to move it. The printer is a decent size as it’s not too big and fits perfectly on a small desk and easily fits on a larger shelf. The printer itself uses 4 cartridges which is a big bonus just like my old printer.
It uses the following ink cartridges; T0711 (Black), T0712 (Cyan), T0713 (Magenta) and T0714 (Yellow). These cartridges are quiet expensive if you buy the original Epson ink cartridges as they are £10.99 each from the Epson website. The multipack is £41.49. They are easily recognisable as they have a Cheetah on the packaging. However, if like me, you don’t care about the inks being original, then the inks are much cheaper on Cartridge people who sell a 16 pack (4 of each colour) for only £19.98 and this can decrease to £17.98 if you buy 3 or more 16 packs.
Another bonus of this printer is that it’s an all-in-one, so it also photocopies as well as scans documents so can be an excellent addition to a business as well as a normal family home. I have had this printer for 3 years and even though it was second hand, it still prints very good quality documents and still functions as it should! So, it has excellent reliability as well. The printer is very easy to set up as it just requires an USB cable to connect it to the computer and you install it using a CD provided by Epson.
The printer also prints double sided and in black colour mode as well. However, for the double sided printing, you do have to manually re-feed the paper for it to be printed double sided. The software does tell you when to do it so it’s very useful feature.
The only downside of this printer is that the printer is not wireless but to me that’s not an issue but it could be a massive turn off for some people! In conclusion, if you want a cheap, second hand reliable printer, then look no further, this printer is excellent and the cartridges can be extremely cheap if bought from websites like cartridge people.
I purchased this printer for around the £60 mark which i feel is a good price for a multifunction printer of this calibre. It does everything i need and it does it well! Print speed and quality are both good. The colours look good and it benefits from having three separate colour cartridges so they can be replaced separately this is useful due to the fact that some colours get used up quicker than others. I found the printer very easy to install and start using and the software is very user friendly. The scanning feature works perfectly and cannot be faulted.
The printer boasts several memory card connection ports right on the front panel. These work just as you would hope and allow you to print photos straight from a memory card bypassing the computer. The same can be said for PictBridge connection socket which is also situated on the front panel.
One bad point i have to say is that the printer cartridges can be expensive and run out quite quickly. For this reason i tend to go to Amazon to purchase the cartridges where a pack of all 4 cartridges will set you back around £30 mark.
