Advantages: good quality of printing and scanning, nice black design, great for home use, cheap to buy and run
Disadvantages: a bit slow if you need to print/scan more pages
Both me and my husband have printer at work, so fore years we didn't really even think of buying our own printer, didn't have need for it. However, during one grocery shopping I found SX100 in Tesco for an absolute bargain - £24.90, and I just could't leave it there.
Design: size as usual All-in-One, I don't think it can be called easy to store, but the trays can be folded and for ink printer it's ok. It comes in black glossy finish and has no display, just a few buttons, pretty straight forward to operate.
Connectivity: It's an old class printer, no bluetooth or wireless connection, had to be connected with computer with old fashioned USB cable, plus of course, there is a power cable. To use as a photocopier, there is no need to connect to computer.
Scanner: There is a CD with software for scanner attached, which is easy to instal and operate, scanning does take a while, plus it does the preview first and than scans again (this can be turned off I believe). Scans are of good quality and resolution, absolutely sufficient for normal home use, but scanning a 100-page document would take ages.
Photocopier: Quality, just as I said about scanner, is great. I must say I have scanned a letter with signature and then it took a minute to determine which one is original (sure you can see it, but not as first sight). You have to load page by page and scanning, again, takes a while, so same as with printer - ok if you need to occasionally photocopy few pages.
Printer: Needs four cartidges - black, magenta, yellow and blue, which really saves money as you don't need to change the full "colour" cartridge as soon as one of the colours is gone. Personally I buy multipacks of Tesco cartridges compatibile with SX100 and never had any probs at all (I have the printer for more than 2 years now), only need to change them twice (colours) or three times (black) a year, but it really depends on how much you print. Again, the printing quality is good, never had any problems with printing dirty lines, etc. Speed of printing - can be a bit of a nightmare if you're in hurry, but it's pretty much normal for ink printers.
I must say I'm really glad we have a printer at home now, especially as it has never let us down, is always to hand whatever you need to use it for. Doesn't need any maintanance at all (except for changing cartridges) and is reliable. Sure there are no extra features you can find on any modern printer these days, but for old fashioned printing and scanning it does the job very well.
Summary: Perfect basic All-In-One to have at home for occasional use
