Epson Stylus SX215
Advantages: Low Price, Easy to Use, Great Quality Prints
Disadvantages: Hard to See Buttons, Feels Cheap
When our printer gave up the ghost just before Christmas, I decided to have a look for another Epson all-in-one to replace it with. I've already got the software installed on my computer, and to be honest I just don't like to change technology brands unless I have to! I'm comfortable with Epson, so I wanted to stay with Epson.
Looking at the Amazon site I had a few choices of Epson all-in-one printers to choose from, but at only £40 this seemed like the best value for money. Amazon are still selling this for around £40, and they're claiming that the original RRP for it is £100. Hmm, well I'm not convinced seeing as how other sites were selling it from around £60 when I looked to buy it, but the bottom line is that £40 is a very good price for a printer of this standard.
Getting set up took a matter of minutes. It really was a case of plug in and get going, though this might be a bit different for someone who's never used an Epson printer before. I just had to connect the power lead and then connect the USB lead to the computer, and my computer sorted out the rest in a couple of minutes.
I have been exceptionally pleased with the performance that this printer has to offer. A page of black text is produced from this baby in a matter of seconds, and full colour pictures don't take a whole lot longer. The print quality of photographs is superb, and I wish I'd replaced my other printer ages ago after seeing the improvement!
The copying and scanning functions are easy to use, and the quality is brilliant of course. My only grumble with these functions is that the buttons which you can use directly on the printer to perform these tasks, are a little hard to locate under your desk. That's because they're all black, as is the printer, and not very clearly defined. So be prepared to bend down to find your button, or have a torch at the ready!
When I first saw this I was a little apprehensive, because it looks and feels a little on the cheap side. And in fairness, it is a little cheap at £40! The lid on the scanner panel feels particularly thin, though I have to say that's it's put up with its fair share of use and abuse so far. As long as you're not planning to kick this around, and only want to use it for regular home-printing, scanning and copying jobs, then I'm sure you'll find this is plenty robust enough. For the price, you really do get exceptionally good printouts.
Summary: Highly Recommended
