Advantages: cheap, economical
Disadvantages: fiddly ink changing
I bought this printer when I got fed up of my Hewlett Packard (don't get me started). I needed a cheap but robust all in one printer, and this fit the bill. Very reasonably priced at £40 from Amazon, this was cheap but cheerful and definitely what I needed. I wasn't about to pay ridiculous amounts of money for a printer as I really don't use it often enough to justify it. Really all I use it for is letters and the occasional print out of a bill for example.
The price of the printer makes it very affordable, especially to university students. It is very easy to set up, you simply plug it in and off you go. Unlike most printers, there's no fussing about with drivers (Hewlett Packard, take note) and it doesn't take a million years to get going. You plug it into your computer (or laptop) and into the mains, that's it. It isn't wireless which some people might find a downfall, but I have never seen the point in a wireless printer as whatever printer I had would just sit on my desk next to the computer anyway, so what's the point in paying more!
You can print via a USB stick which is very handy, I often copy files from my laptop onto a USB stick if I want them printed, it's quick and easy.
There is a flip up LCD screen which shows you exactly what the printer is doing, including any error messages. You never need to guess what's wrong or what's happening as it is all clearly displayed, which is a godsend compared to other printers. You can view your files before printing too.
Copying and scanning are done with the push of a button - no need to do anything on the computer. The copies are of good quality. Every time I have copied something it has always come out well with no missing bits or smudges or faded parts. The quality isn't the best, but it IS very good and certainly good enough. Scanning is easy, does the job well.
Obviously the printer is wipe-clean only, and easy to do. The only problem is installing the new ink cartridges - you have to hold down two buttons simultaneously and this can be a bit tricky and fiddly. However after one or two attempts you get to grips with it and it becomes quicker and easier. The inks are very cheap to buy online, and they last a very long time - probably twice as long as my HP's inks did.
Overall, this printer is very economical. The prints and copies are good quality - not the best, but unless you need them to be, then this will do the job. It is relatively small and modern looking so would fit in nicely on anyone's desk or for a university student. Being cheap to buy and having cheap, economical printing - what more could you ask?
