HP Deskjet 3070A e-All-in-One
Advantages: Cheap and great wireless connectivity
Disadvantages: poor at printing photos with no phototray or double sided printing
After purchasing this printer around 6 months ago now both I and my girlfriend are extremely pleased with the purchase. At around £40 this is a fairly cheap printer but it does just about everything that you require a small household printer to do.
Like all HP products I have owned this printer came with some great software that is in the form of a CD. This software tells you just how to unwrap and plug in your printer and in less than half an hour it will all be up and running smoothly due to the step by step instructions that literally anyone could follow. For our use we have this printer plugged into the mains power, then connected to the wireless internet connection so that any computer in the home can use it wirelessly and so that you can also email it documents to print.
This printer is fairly cheap and due to this some of the plastic feels a little 'tacky' when you touch it but actually it has never broken down on us yet and seeing as it just sits on a shelf and prints it doesn't have to be the most rugged piece of equipment. During use the printer does make a bit of a shake to the cupboard it sits in but it does the job perfectly fine, and unlike most cheap printers it holds the paper securely - both plain paper and paper after printing.
This printer is a bit of a box, in saying that I mean it is very square and lacks style and flair that a more expensive printer has. By paying less money you get this printer that has buttons instead of a touchscreen and a basic shape but actually that doesn't mean it doesn't perform as well. Sticking to the looks the printer has a matt black finish and an easy to use front display that gives the product a simple but slightly cheap look to it.
Okay being a basic printer this product will not be printing out any prize winning photographs in its life. As the name suggests this product is a deskjet rather than a photosmart - that meaning that it is more suited to printing out text and general documents rather than photos and images of high quality. When you do want to print out photos though this product will accept many ranges of paper varying in size and thickness or finish. As for the quality of the print this printer will give you a decent image that is not distorted in colour but it will not be a clear and crisp as you may hope from a photo, beware.
One of the great features about this product is that it can connect wirelessly to your network so that lots of computers can print to it without a lead. This is particularly useful for printing from laptops and is really simple to setup with either password protection or just having registered computers allowed to print to the device. Once installed on computers this printer makes everyday printing tasks easy and I think all printers should have this wireless function.
HP E-Print is also another 'wireless' feature of this product. This is the fact that this printer can be assigned an email address so you can email it a document to print out from anywhere in the world and it will print out the email along with any attachments that it may have. Obviously it cannot print out documents in word as it cannot read them but simple images or PDF's work a treat. Personally I think this is a great feature to have and is really useful for when your out - you don't have to remember to print something when you get home anymore as you can print it from miles away from another computer or even your phone.
This is a decent printer that is cheap and cheerful. I would recommend this product to anyone who needs a versatile printer for everyday tasks as long as they don't really need to print that many photos. With ink cartridges being cheap on amazon and a three year warranty, you really can't go wrong with this for the price. Only improvements would be printing photos, double sided printing or a document feeder.
