HP Deskjet F2280 All-in-One
Advantages: Good Printing and Scanning functionality
Disadvantages: Photocopier not good, did not last very long
Again another purchase of mine back in January 2009 when I was turning the spare bedroom into my home office for my new job. I did not do any shopping around despite having the whole of the Christmas break to get organised (there was far too much football to watch and Stella to be drunk for that). I picked up the HP Deskjet F2280 All In One when doing the weekly grocery run at Tesco's. I can't remember exactly what I paid but I know it was on offer and think about £49.99.
This seemed good value as I needed a basic colour printer with Scanning and Photocopying functionality which the 2280 offered. The printer is certainly not the smallest and easiest on the eye but I keep it on a shelf under my desk so it was out the way. The unit is white and grey with front feed for paper and flat bed scanning and photocopier unit on top.
Set up was very simple but I did make my normal mistake and not check if it was supplied with a USB cable so needed to pop up PC World to get one. Why can't a company the size of HP supply such a cheap essential .I am sure many non printer experts would expect all the components to be supplied to start printing.
The printer prints at 20 pages per minute black and white, 14 pages a minute in colour which is quick enough for most homes and small offices. I found the print quality good and used it to send out documentation to clients. I find it is pretty good on ink consumption although I do not do a massive amount of printing.
The scanner was spot on and saved everything I scanned in the MY SCANS folder on my computer. The quality was very good and scanning was speedy. This is not a feature I use a lot, but essential I had it.
Photocopier was not really up to standards, I found it very slow to copy in just black and white. I also had a problem where I would do a copy a run of maybe 8 copies the first 2 or 3 would be fine then it would do a copy at maybe 30% the size of the original document which was unusable. No idea why this was as I am not particularly technical.
On the whole other than the photocopying issue the printer was good. I am afraid to say that it gave up the ghost in November of this after just under 2 years use, the paper kept jamming up and would stop printing. I have no idea on the life expectancy of a printer but this did not seem long to me? I guess you get what you pay for. It did not seem worth trying to get it fixed so spent a bit more on a new All In One.
