Advantages: Reliable, Long lasting, Nice design, Lightweight

Disadvantages: Cartridges are less interexchangeable

We got the HP Deskjet F4180 all in one printer for my sister during her uni course. Three years later, she's back and now I'm using it too. The printer is a compact and robust rectangular shape, which makes it extremely easy to store unlike older all in one printers, like the HP PSC 750 and the HP Photosmart 2610, which are both rounded at the top.

Connecting the printer up to function is straightforward, and requires you to connect the printer to the power supply (the battery is a bit heavy and bulky) and also from the printer to the computer. You can also link the computer to a network so you can print from wireless computer connections, which we currently have with another printer.
The simplicity of the interface and buttons on the printer itself makes using it very easy. Personally, I use this to print documents from the computer, which is controlled from the computer, but photocopying is just as easy, and a touch of a button away.

Recently we had to scan some documents for my mum and whilst that may be the most complicated procedure compared to printing and copying, that too was made easy by the printer. Having put the document in, just press scan and then the on screen instructions will direct you. You can save the file as a picture, include it in word or attach in an email document.

The quality of the scan is very high, and you can zoom in to it 300-400% and still have it at a good resolution. Printing and Copying produces similar results. You wouldn't be able to tell it was a copy if you compare the original and the result.

The printer came out quite a few years ago, and still works which is great. We got it extremely cheaply during a Christmas sale for about £30, and also because we knew the ink cartridges for this printer would be cheaper than the other printer at home, so it was a worthy investment. Cartridges cost around £10-20 depending on where you get them.

Overall, the printer has been a pleasant addition to the family of printers and half broken all in ones. This has the nicest design of all, is lightweight and compact. Despite its price, quality is not compromised and you still get very good prints. I can foresee this outlasting the other printers. Highly recommended.

Summary: A good printer
