HP Deskjet F4580 All-in-One
Advantages: scans, photo copies and prints. Looks good and does the job well!
Disadvantages: None at all
I've been through a number of printers year in and year out since certain models are no longer sold and as a consequence cartridges sky rocket in price and the only option you're left with is to upgrade to a better printer. Out of all of the printers I've had previously from lexmark to codak to an un familiar brand name, I've finally found one that I can rely on and I have come to find that larger ink cartridges are sold as well as the standard sized cartridges which is ideal as I end up draining the standard ones almost instantly because of my college work.
I've had no problems using this printer for a number of months now and I'm pleased with how easy it is to connect it to the house's wireless network so I don't have to carry my laptop through to the living room and plug it in each time I need to print something. If you lose the installation CD for the printer you can always search on the HP website for a free driver software download for the basic or advanced/full installation for the printer and I truly appreciate this because I am hopeless with looking after CD's and being able to find things when I need them the most, so there's always a back up plan.
The scanning quality is also really impressive, there are no blotchy marks like an old photo copier would produce - the images are that crisp that you can barely tell that it is a replica of what you have scanned. The scanner also acts as a quick photo copier without the need to do it through your computer, you can press copy and the printer will then scan and instantly print your work for you and there is also colour options in which you'd like to print things out for the copying option; either black and white or colour, - another great convenience!
I haven't experienced any paper jamming or anything being chewed up or printed wobbly as of yet, providing I've got a decent amount of ink left in the cartridges my images always look brilliant and I've only needed to do an alignment test once and that's it! Standard cartridges print around 30 - 40 colour and black and white pages off which isn't too bad if you manage to acquire them for an acceptable price, however the larger ones known as "XL" print much more than that and are often better value. Though in my experience I have found it harder to get hold of the XL one's but here's hoping that someone else has better luck with that part than I have!
I have no complaints whatsoever about this printer as it even looks sleek and attractive placed next to the tv and record player and looks like part of the decoration/furniture which is great as I hate seeing something that stands out like a sore thumb to the point where you want to just hide it in a corner or a cupboard. I guess you can say it has it's pride of place on the table top with the other gadgets because of it's convenience and appearance.
The price is even great, at the time I got this printer it averaged around £50 - £60 and this was only a couple of years ago so you might even find this cheaper now, so not only is it nice to look at and a reliable printer - you might just find yourself a bargain here.
Summary: Smart and sleek looking printer that does the job well and multi tasks so you don't have to.
