Advantages: photo quality printing / photocopying at home

Disadvantages: large footprint, cartridges aren't cheap.

I have never had much luck with printers. Since I was 20, I have had 6 different ones, and I am 27 now! However with the C3180 I have learned my lesson, and I think the trick is, only to use HP cartidges - that's what has messed my printers up in the past.

Scanner: - This works really well and is great for scanning old photos to put on facebook (this is all I use it for!) and also for photocopying. It's so handy to be able to copy a few sheets at home for whatever purpose. You just place the paper in the scanner, press 'copy' and it then prints out the page.

Memory card reader: - This has three slots and takes all the big memory cards, its handy just as an extra drive for your PC, or for printing photos. Here, there is a function where a memory card containing photos can be inserted, to print a sheet containing thumbnails of all the photos on the card. Also printed is a tick box next to each thumbnail. You then mark the photos you want and insert it into the scanner. This then reads the marks you made in pen, and prints the photos you selected. This is probably handier if you're using the printer independently of a computer.

Printer:- Of course the devices main function. This works brilliantly, whether printing off something quick using the 'fast draft' setting, or printing onto quality photo paper. The photos I have printed are flawless and I have even framed some for my bedroom wall.

The machine has a large footprint, as you would expect from a printer / scanner. But it is as compact as it can be, and looks tidy on the desk. I would recommend this as a simple, but quality printer.

Summary: Solid, reliable printer with plenty of functions.
