Capable of 4800 x 1200 dots per inch (dpi) in black and color on photo paper, inkjet paper transparencies, and on plain paper, the Lexmark X5150 will impress home and home office users with its photo-realistic output and precise text. In addition, variable color drop size technology - three picoliters (pL) for textured areas and 10 pL for solid areas - allows for smooth color transitions and beautifully rich detail.

A useful feature is you can press the 'Black Copy' button and it will 'photocopy' it for you. Very useful. There is no need to have a PC connected to the machine. I bought this printer along with a computer from PC World in 2003. It was quite cheap; however be warned, the cartridges cost about £40. The machine looks quite nice, but is large and heavy. Installation was a breeze, and I was very impressed with the bundled software, especially the ABBYY OCR software, which converts scanned documents into texts documents (e.g. Microsoft Office Word documents). The machine connects by USB. The printer produces excellent results, both for text and photo, however is quite slow, so if speed is what you are after, this is not the machine for you. I have a lexmark x5150, I have had it for three years and in my experience of it, it is a very quiet and reliable printer, it is very easy to replace cartridges, my only complaint is that some thickness of card won`t go through and as I make quite a lot of greetings cards, this for me is my one complaint. This is the worst printer i have ever known and my friend has the same printer and thinks the same. This Printer was excellent quality for the first month or two but the the change began. The quality started failing, lines were appearing through everything, ink was being splashed all over the side of the printer. The software froze itself on the computer and wouldn't delete. the scanner scanned things jerky and color was blurred. the paper was always ripping inside the printer and an annoying voice saying 'PRINTING STARTED' froze my computer.
