Piriton Allergy Tablets
Advantages: Allows me to get on with my daily life
Disadvantages: Expensive especially if you need a few a day
I have been suffering with hay fever for as long as I can remember and as much as I look forward to summer I do dread the high pollen count that comes with it. I am luckier than some people as my hay fever is only a mild version and thanks to all the advances in modern medicine I can pretty much get on with my life uninterrupted with only a few days here and there where it actually affects my daily life.
Piriton tablets are usually my first port of call when my hay fever is bad and I need some help with controlling it. They aren't cheap though at nearly £10 for a pack which has 30 tablets in it but they are the best thing for controlling my allergies so it is a price that I happily pay.
They work by blocking the histamine receptors in your body meaning that you can actually be exposed to whatever is causing your allergies without them flaring up. This is how is works for me anyway. I would never dream of venturing in to the countryside and walking through flower fields for instance but when I have taken a Piriton I can be exposed to as many flowers as I like and my allergies do not play up. I probably wouldn't recommend that you go rolling in flowers but they do allow me to be able to be at least in their vicinity without any itchy eyes or runny nose.
You can take a Piriton every 4 to 6 hours as long as you don't take more than 6 tablets in a 24 hour period. Now I usually only have to take one in the morning and one in the evening to keep my hay fever under control but as I said mine is mild so if you suffer worse then you may need to take more which does mean it can become costly.
As well as working on hay fever these can work on other allergies as well such as with animals or with dust mites.
They can cause drowsiness but I have never found this to be a problem while taking them and I have ever experienced any sort of reaction but of course they are a medicine so you should really read the leaflet that comes with them to make sure that it is safe for you to take them.
Piriton tablets just make summer more bearable than it would be otherwise and although I am grateful that I only suffer from mild hay fever these do make the suffering a lot less than it would be otherwise.
