On the apprentice server (Newbie server) you get 1 turn per 20 minutes so that you have time to adjust to things going on in Terra. But in the blitz server (experienced) you get a turn every 5 minutes. Also, not all features are available in all servers, e.g in apprentice, there are no "Ultimate" spells and there is a land ...more

Rating:

Archmage is a turn based online game provided to the public at the moment free of charge (although they are going to start charging for it) where you play a mage who has recently been reincarnated from Hell after the great war. There are many different servers each with different aspects. They are also available in a few languages. You have control of you country which you have to protect, build up, and try to conquor other countries with. There are three main phases to this game, Research (vital if you are to survive), Building up, and climbing the ranks. First of all, you have to choose what magic speciality your mage will be. Premium Review Ok, who hid my Pegasus? (499 words)
by - written on 04/12/00 (Very useful, 76 readings)
Rating:

Archmage is a very addictive game, but you do have to play it every day. You play a mage, and can have one of five specialities - these give you various bonuses/disadvantages. You can explore (to find free land), build (which costs land, money and sometimes magic points), recruit to your army, research spells, cast spells, and of course, attack. This is free, although if you click on the banners you may find you get 'good luck' for the day. Basically you have to explore, build and research - the more mage guilds you build, the quicker your research goes, until you have some good spells, and some fortresses, and then build up your army ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Archmage: No graphics, but totally involving (530 words)
by - written on 28/06/00 (Very useful, 114 readings)
Rating:

Archmage is one of the many free web-games that have appeared in recent years. For those who have never played them, some background is needed. These are pure strategy games. Your kingdom, planet, trading company, or whatever the game is about, is described purely in numbers. In Archmage your key stats include land area, magic points, population and troop numbers. You have a set number of turns to play with, and as time passes in the real world you gain more turns in the game. In Archmage, you play a wizard, fighting to dominate the world. There are three elements to the game. First is the land of your kingdom and its buildings. You can use turns to explore, ...  Read the complete review

Revolutionary LongOnly lasts a year

A highly addictive "scrabblesque" on-line word game. Very fast log-in and very fast and responsive server. Basic graphics but who cares!

Kwik Snax
A unique and entertaining budget puzzle game. Limited in scope, repetitive and extremely hard.

Nights into Dreams
Fantastic soaring gameplay, brilliant music, great art style, a lot of replayability Short, poor graphics, clunky ground sections

Spellbound Dizzy
Entertaining puzzle solving fun for all ages. Lack of save option adds to the frustration.

Fantasy World Dizzy
The Oliver Twins' swan song (swans lay eggs, geddit?) fixes the problems of their first two games. Too great a reliance on fatal trial-and-error to solve puzzles.

Wibble World Giddy
An accurate and enjoyable 'Dizzy' clone with colourful graphics. Nothing new, and fairly short.

Dizzy: Prince of the Yolkfolk
The game Dizzy fans had been waiting for? Too similar to 'Magicland Dizzy' to really stand out.

Sega Genesis Gain Ground (Amiga)
Will last ages... ...if you can actually stomach it
