Advantages: It will entertain your dad for hours
Disadvantages: Graphics are basic and controls are difficult grap
Genre: Flight Simulator
Released: 1992
Developer: Microprose
This is one of the most beautiful planes ever made and was an integral part of World War 2. So when a game came along with a B17 included I had to play it.
GRAPHICS
The graphics are very basic and does not offer anything that will make you think wow that's amazing but still for the time when it was released it did the job.
SOUND QUALITY
The sound quality was ok and the requirements on the box stated that a soundcard was not always needed to run this game.
GAME REQUIREMENTS
640K of RAM - This is amazing when you see 1GB of memory today
Floppy disk drive
DOS 5.0
AIM OF THE GAME
You have to choose your type of aircraft and then had to choose the design of the nose cone. Then you would receive your briefing and a map showing you where you needed to arrive at.
The game did allow some freedom and you could fly around picking off random targets which I remember doing quite regularly as it was hard to complete missions.
If your plane became damaged you had to try and return to base without crashing - I never did return and would always end up in the sea!
CONTROLS
The skills needed to play this game were pilot standard and way to hard for young kids. My dad found it hard and he thinks he knows about flying! Lots of keyboard controls and very hard not to crash.
CONCLUSION
I always remember with these types of games that you almost certainly had to have a massive user manual which your dad would always read whilst you struggled to play it without any instructions or controls. I also remember having a keyboard layout which would give you a thousand controls which would really test you typing skills.
This game was ok but like all old aircraft - it should remain retired.
RATING: 2/5
Summary: This is an ok game but flying games have really progressed and now looks past its sell by date
