Released between 1991 and 1994 over a wide range of home console/computer formats, Chuck Rock is a Flintstones-style side scrolling platform game in whicy you play as a lunk-headed Neanderthal who must work his way through the level fly-kicking and belly-bouncing dinosaurs and pterodactyls whilst collecting dino-steaks to keep your health up and dodging flying rocks. You can also pick up and hurl boulders, as the games title would sggest, using them to both kill foes and to allow you to cross swamps, lava flows and other obstacles. The game is full of interesting features, such as charging triceratops, reptiles and big-tusked mammoths that can be used as ... Read the complete review

Not a poorly conceived movie tie-in this time, though like every cartoon and video game dealing with dinosaurs or cavemen since the 1960s, ‘Chuck Rock’ owes an awful lot to the Flintstones. One of the more memorable 16-bit platform games largely for its obese prehistoric protagonist, Chuck Rock is reasonably difficult and fairly enjoyable, and another solid release from the ever-reliable Core Design. In this game, the player controls the eponymous Chuck Rock, whose special talent lies in – you guessed it – lobbing boulders. Anyone who has ever played a platform game will be familiar with the controls and gameplay, as the player moves Chuck from the extreme ... Read the complete review

Genre: Platform Released: 1992 Console: Mega Drive Chuck Rock is a classic prehistoric game which has a really catchy theme tune. I remember at the load up screen there used to be a rock band playing the theme tune and it used to get on your nerves after a while as it used to repeat the same song over and over again. The game itself is quite fun and remember having to lift boulders onto his head and throwing them at flying creatures and little bugs on the floor. The game itself has a bit of humour in it in terms of facial expressions when chuck lands on something sharp. He used to look like something out of the beano like ... Read the complete review

One of my favourites when I was young. The game starts with a mini cartoon. Chuck Rock - The main character - is home watching the football when his wife is kidnapped by his arch enemy. It's down to Chuck to save her, but as she's just done the washing, he has to wear a few leaves to protect his dignity! The Idea This is a one player platform game set in prehistoric times. You go from level to level defeating various dinosours and jumping turtles in your quest of recuing Chuck's wife. At the end of each "section" - normally three levels - you face an "end of level" baddie who of course is harder to beat. ... Read the complete review
