I must confess I have never owned a PS. Not to say that I have never been a fan of computer games, I have. Ever since the days of the ZX81, (good graphics on some games- yes it was said)! The ZX Spectrum (Wow Colour)! Remember the great Atari? (The ultimate, we thought). Everyone picks out certain games and describes ‘the graphics’ as superb. (I don’t think so)!
I think it’s the popularity and compatibility status of the PS that has given its appeal to the many rather than it’s technical or outstanding merits.
Everyone seems gutted on the one hand that the PS2 has arrived (pocket wise), but really wants to upgrade, given the chance!
It’s successful mass marketing and risky enterprise for the big commercial boys and a consumer con war not far removed from the days of Betamax vs. VHS!
It’s not always the technically superior cleverly designed and functional products that win this consumer war. The right place and time in the marketplace seems as good a recipe as anything.
The PS will go down in history as a major success for Sony, and you don’t even have to throw all your games away (yet) folks! For the time being it has escaped the ‘museum piece’ status.
I think the useful aspects in technological developments deserve more appeal. The potential of a computer is beyond our imagination. What these things can control, monitor, task, remember, and inform us of is under utilised even today. I think it only came to grips when the processor went MMX (multimedia), and now begins to encompass real images, audio and video.
Graphics are gone. It’s the real world now folks. Lets not play too many games!

I was beginning to enjoy your opinion but just as you finished introducing it, it ended abruptly. I?m not too sure why you don?t like games much, other than the fact they take you away from reality (but then again so do most things we enjoy, that is often why we enjoy them).
