OVERVIEW
This was one of my favourite games for the PS1 and was released after Duke Nukem 1 and 2. I used to remember that the character looked like Arnie but with a blonde haircut. The technology used in this game was taken from other games that had been previously made e.g. Doom and Star Wars which are also great games.

AIM OF THE GAME
You are a hero on the planet earth and must fight through many levels (28 in total) which is separated across a few chapters. The game itself is set in the 21st Century in a world which is corrupt and no laws exist. The game starts in Los Angeles and eventually end up on a moon base. While Duke Nukem is away from our planet aliens attack earth.

You must then return to earth and guess what - yes no humans are there but some gorgeous women like aliens who try to attack you exist (its hilarious!). The USA looks like a dump site while pornography is rife throughout many lands.

LEVELS
28 in all and you find yourself in the desert, different bases, and a flooded city which is great. During the game I tended to use the sewers and ducts to avoid monsters and other lurking creatures. Another random feature is that you find yourself in a level with Japanese Villas (quite weird) but lots of fun.

I remember finding a secret level when playing this on the PS1 which were not actually on the PC version but the developers later released an additional pak for PC users to upgrade and get those extra levels.

WEAPONS
As you might expect with this type of game the bigger the weapon the more destruction it causes. You also expect a wide range of variety and this game does not let you down in this department.

A few of them are Electric Minigun, laser mines, and pipe bombs. You are also given a jetpack and HoloDuke which is great for tricking your enemies.

MODES OF GAMEPLAY
I used to love both modes of gameplay (multiplayer or single player). When this game was released online gaming was just starting up and had to pay just to play this game against other users online.

GRAPHICS
The graphics at the time were second to none and were very similar to other games out at the time.

SOUND QUALITY
By today's standards the sound is not great but at the time the audio was top notch.

UPDATES
Yes I bought the upgrade which was called The Plutonium Pak which added another chapter to the game. There were also many other games created after this game.

CONCLUSION
This is a controversial but well created game which took up many hours of my life. This was the start of my addiction to computer games especially the first person 'shoot em' up genres.

This is a classic and with great monsters and levels, it will definitely keep you entertained.

MY RATING: 4/5

Summary: Great game but would not recommend for young children
