With the upcoming release of half-life episode 2, I recently decided to finally splash out some cash and play episode 1. I have been a faithful half life fan over the last few years after finding myself (rather surprisingly) enthralled by the original half-life 1, first person fps shooter, I became an addict (playing other valve games such as CS regularly). The graphics may not be great (designed in 1997) but the problem solving and ingenuity of the game compensates. Therefore when half-life 2 came out I was quick to purchase it, in turn this game was also fantastically planned with a plot almost independent to the original so new gamers could join in the fun. ... I first started playing Half-Life online quite some time ago, and the thing that struck me was the lack of advice that I could find for playing well, or even just staying alive! I relied on my friends' help, which only goes so far. However, despite my relative inexperience, I will try to have a go at giving some basic advice, that most experienced players will know already, but it may be useful to some novices. Aim of the Game --------------- Kill anything that moves, with whatever weapons you pick up. If you have to use a crowbar, then do. Actually, a crowbar can actually be a very useful weapon at close range. If you join or run a team ... Read the complete review

Getting Half-Life coincided with me taking my first faltering steps into the big wide world of online gaming. I was instantly hooked, with the excitement of people from all over the world fighting against each other. I seem to be writing a varient on the same thing in all of these online reviews, but I can't stress it enough - don't expect to be able to compete at a decent level without a good connection!!! But on to the game itself (I feel I can comment as I've played this loads over a LAN). All of the weapons are well balanced, and you know that you're getting good when you can kill effectively with any weapon you pick up. There are loads of ... Read the complete review

First-person shoot-em-ups started with a game called Wolfenstien 3D. Ring any bells? This was one of the very first 3D computer games, which could only use walls at a right-angle to each other and featured gory Nazi-blasting fun. This was followed by the much more well-known game called Doom. Doom really got things going. Rise of The Triads came next and then, a bit later came Duke Nukem 3D. I am in fact only mentioning the games that were any good, because in the gap between Rise of The Triads and Duke 3D represents a period when the genre rolled all the down the hill. Most dreadful of all was a game called Operation Bodycount, but I won't go into that. Once Duke 3D ... Read the complete review

This game is just simply amazing. In my point of view, i think this game just latches on to you as soon as you get it. I bought it, thinking it was going to be good, and i wasn't wrong. The Menu is realistic including a "boot camp" which is to get you used to the game. I thought this was a brilliant idea and as soon as i started it, i just said "wow!" The graphics looked amazing, (even though it's quite an old engine now) it did look like a real camp. I thought they put a lot of detail into it. The view was the best for a 3D shoot em' up. The surronding area was good, with good detail. The game seems almost real and it is possible ... Read the complete review
