... e.g. when the player kicked the ball the gamer could believe that the footballer was actually dribbling. In previous football games this was not possible. This game was also one of the first to introduce action relays for goals and produce different referees with different personalities. Some say that this game is still one of the best made to date due to the fact that the gamer has so much control over the action during gameplay. The game was given many awards one of which was the golden joystick award - best 16 bit ...more

This game is another classic Amiga game one of many in my opinion. I enjoyed all kick off games as I am a big football fan. The game itself was a big hit as the game included simulated commentary and the physics of the game were different to any type of football game e.g. when the player kicked the ball the gamer could believe that the footballer was actually dribbling. In previous football games this was not possible. This game was also one of the first to introduce action relays for goals and produce different referees with different personalities. I have played all the different soccer games that have been out on many different formats and Kick Off is head and shoulders above any other. It is a no non-sense overhead view, graphics are functional. Sound is fine, options slightly limited maybe......but there is gameplay to die for. Testament to it's addictiveness is the fact that my friend Bill and I, for 2 years, played each other at Kick Off every weekend afternoon. Setting up leagues (sad??) and just generally me beating him most times!! (Yes, honestly) No 3-D needed, no 4 player option, none of your camera angles, not even a facility to 'Name your Team/Players. Pah to that! This game is ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Kick Off: A Footballing Classic From Yesteryear (463 words)

Rating:

Kick-Off was highly acclaimed as being the best football game ever made when it first made its appearance on the Amiga, spawning numerous sequels and upgrades which somehow never really stood up to the simplicity of the original. Played in single player mode against the computer it was fun for a while but as soon as you learnt the tricks and little foibles of the opposition you were soon winning 10(or more) - 0 every game. Played against another human opponent this game could not be beaten for addictiveness and fun. Despite its dodgy graphics which basically consist of a flat green pitch, white lines and purple and cyan players to represent the two teams, and even ...  Read the complete review

Great use of gravity. Instant deaths make gameplay frustrating.
