Advantages: Fantastic war game
Disadvantages: None at all
This is one Amiga game I used to play for hours. Basically North and South is a cartoon like war game set during the American civil war. Up to two players can participate in the war, which takes place in quite a few different locations. Once you start the game you can see a map of the USA and little toy soldiers represent the armies in the different states. Each army can move to another adjacent area in one turn, and if you move into an occupied state a battle takes place. This is the best part of the game, the armies line up, and you will be able to control a group of soldiers from your infantry, cavalry and artillery the controls for this part of the game are easy to master adding to the fun of the game. There is of course more to the game to this, your Calvary cannot move forward or backwards. Pulling backwards with more than one unit under your command will result in the troops lining up together to enable you to cross small ravines. The infantry can move in all directions, they can fire guns, you will have to take careful aim to hit anything, you also use shells, if you know what you are doing with these sometimes you can take out an army in one go. You can also destroy bridges, building etc; this makes it harder for your enemy to advance. This game also features a wimp button, so if you are taking a hammering, you can retreat to safely. No army can survive without money, so in this game you can earn money by controlling railway stations. Oh yeah look out for the Indians they can wipe out a platoon that is to near there camp. This is a fantastic game, mainly because of the simple yet effective graphics; tactics are needed in this game, if you want to win. This is definitely not a run of the mill boring war game, this game is different, it's colourful, it has lots of great sound effects not to mention the addictiveness of the game.
