Advantages: Cheap and cheerful

Disadvantages: The graphics haven`t aged well

Well, look at this. Sony have recently decided to drop the price of the original Playstation 1 to the grand sum of £50. For this price you get yourself a nice little console that has got quite possibly the worlds widest selection of games, although the PSOne hasn`t stood the test of time incredibly well.

I`ve had my PSOne for quite a while now, almost a year, and have more than had my moneys worth of play out of it. I haven`t bought many games for it, but the games I have got are very good indeed. For example, you can get Final Fantasy 7 on the PSOne for about £10, and this game will take you at least 25-30 hours of playing to finish - a lot more if you want to explore every little corner and find all the secrets hidden away.

The biggest problem the PSOne has these days is in the graphics department. While I do still enjoy playing on the PSOne for the retro feel, the graphics have been left miles behind by the likes of the PS2, Dreamcast and most especially the Gamecube.

I`m sure everyone on the planet now knows what the controller on the original PSOne is like - two analogue pads, one digital pad and lots of buttons. It is fairly well designed, being quite comfortable to hold and use, but not as nice as either the Dreamcast or Gamecube controller. having said that there are many more styles of third-party controller available for the PSOne, which means that you should be able to find one that suits you no matter what.

If you already have a Dreamcast I`d strongly suggest you get yourself a Playstation, since the pair complement each other very well, but if you have to make the choice then go for the Dreamcast over the Playstation. The Dreamcast is the same price, the games are much cheaper and the graphics are so much better it`s beyond belief.
