There are only seven new units, but too often in RTS expansion packs has the introduction of a new race or a plethora of new units done a lot of damage to the most important aspect of real-time-strategy - The balance. Here is a list of the new units: Terran Medic - A unit which heals infantry and can fire an optic flare into detector units rendering their function redundant. Terran Valkyrie...more

Premium Review Star Craft: Brood Wars: Live for the Swarm! (349 words)

Starcraft is a futuristic real-time strategy game in which the player can choose to play as one of three races, the Protoss, a hypersentient warrior race with advanced military technology and a strict code of honour, the Zerg, a brainless canibalistic swarm of fleshy and venemous abominations controlled by a hive mind, and the Terrans, the remainder of the human race. Despite modestly calling itself an 'expansion pack,' Starcraft - Brood Wars could quite easily be considered a sequel. Picking up from where Starcraft left off, it has three more campaigns for each species which actually contain more levels than the original itself, as well as new characters and ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Greatest Strategy Game ever! (258 words)

Stay away from this game if you don't want to get addicted to the single greatest strategy game on the computer of all time! I started playing this game in 2003, and fell in love with it right from the start. The graphics aren't up to today's standards, but who really cares? The graphics and sound are both average, as well as the in-game movies. There are three races to choose from in this game; Protoss, Terran, and Zerg. Each race has their own strengths and weaknesses, and you have to tailor your strategy accordingly. This creates a complex gameplay and helps keep you interested. The campaign has a good story line. Not all missions are ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Star Craft: Brood Wars: It is a super star (244 words)

This is an excellent game by itself, but to be complimented with the ability to be played online is an excellent idea. The game has three sides, the Zerg, the Terrans and the Protoss. Zerg: They are antlike creatures with unbelievable biological power, some can dig underground, some can fly, and some can even spit. Terrans: They are the humans, us. They are us in the future. They have tanks and aeroplanes which can cloak, and large battleships to really help the marines when against the enemy airships. Protoss: They have shields, and very high technology. They are the strongest of the three and are very ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Adds quite a bit to the game (1975 words)

Starcraft: Brood War is the expansion to the extremely popular game Starcraft. With new campaigns, new map styles, new maps, new cinematic scenes and new units it really does add quite a bit to the game, but not enough to appeal to people who aren't already fans of the original game. --Storyline-- Continuing on from the end of the starcraft storyline (so please skip this storyline section if you don't want to know what happens) the game tells the story of the continuing battle for survival between the Terran, Protoss and Zerg races. The Zerg hive is shattered and fierce in-fighting is taking place, during which Kerrigan the Queen of ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Star Craft: Brood Wars: Starcraft (150 words)
by - written on 29/07/00 (Somewhat useful, 160 readings)
Rating:

A strategy game in the command and conquer style, the graphics are a bit dated now, the sound is adequate, and the gameplay is good. It should run on virtually any machine. You play on for three sides in a level based game, there are some nice weapons.Starcraft offers a lengthy single-player campaign featuring ten missions for its three diverse races, totaling 30 single-player missions in all. The story is compelling enough to make playing through all three worthwhile, and the campaign difficulty is tiered so that each is more challenging than the last. With the exception of the installation missions the missions are well designed. The solo player also has the option of ...  Read the complete review
