This is an online-only PC Game, which can be found at http://stellar.gamestats.com/SC.main.html. It claims to be the first online game, and I don't know how truthful this is, but it dates from way back in 1992. The game is pretty basic. You make ships and explore the adjacent solar systems. You can colonise planets and attack other races. Despite it's seeming simplicity, the game is engrossing and you soon get the hang of it all. The game keeps a track of how you've done and you can see where you rank out of all the registered players. The only problem I've encountered is an occasional lack of players.
