Advantages: Great gameplay
Disadvantages: Out of date because of it's younger competition
Whilst in the 90s I loved this game, it was the "in" thing. However, in 2011, I can see how primitive it is in comparison it to the newer Sims games. If you haven't played any Sims games before then this is a brilliant game that you will love but if you have played the newer ones you will probably be sorely disappointed as the graphics and the gameplay cannot compare to the newer games but, in a way, that is a credit to the original as it shows that this game was so good that the newer games were set into development in the first place as the brand is so popular.
Basically you get to control characters, called Sims, which you can create yourself choosing a head and a body OR you can play with the various ready made Sims. You guide them through life making them marry, have children and develop their careers until they eventually die. It is essentially like playing God. This game has a special place in my heart as it is the original game which spawned the subsequent ones. Thank you The Sims!
Overall, I would recommend this for first time players or collectors of all things The Sims. But I would recommend The Sims 2 or 3 more as they're more advanced with more detail and gameplay options plus there's probably little price difference nowadays.
Summary: My first love.
