(there are events that happen and you can be involved in those) this creates an interesting experience in that players do there own thing, meet people and do things with them.... The game setting (the events and underlying happenings) are constantly changing and as this is a purely online experience you have to pay Origin to go on their servers.. that is a $9.99 per month charge (on top of the purchase of the g...more

So far there have been erm..... about oooh.... er..... 10 Ultima games? Correct if I am wrong, but it's still a lot. When Ultima Online was first released only 1000 copies were released in Europe so if you got one you were one lucky devil, I didn't get one so I could can't tell you about the first game but I can sure tell you about this one. A rpg at its heart it is totally loyal to its genre by having all the normal things you expect, orcs, monsters, magic and warriors. The thing that makes this game a cut above the rest is that quite obviously it is only playable online through the game. There are a number of shards/servers to choose from (about 20 or ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Better Than Life? (392 words)

Ultima Online could destroy your life. I bought UO and played it for one month then stopped because I'd let my credit run out. This wasn't because the game is bad. It was more to do with me being a cheap bastard. On reflection though, it was a good thing that I did stop. The game was taking over my life. UO takes place in the land of Britannia, an Olde Englande type place. There is no technology, just magic and good, old fashioned, skills. You come in to the world with few possesions and little skill. Then you do what you like. Literally, that's it. You can work, hunt, steal or murder to earn money. You can learn a profession, or try to be ...  Read the complete review

WOW, I finally got hold of a copy of Ultima Online.... trying to find a copy in the UK is virtually impossible. When I heard about the game, I was intrigued by what you COULD do in the game, I thought to myself, "Yeah, I'm sure they can make it THAT intricate" sarcastically, I finally get it and it IS that intricate!! You can hunt rabbits, sell the hide to a tailor and sell the meat to a butcher... or you could be a tailor yourself and make clothes... Basically the game is an entirely freeform RPG in that there is no set storyline.. (there are events that happen and you can be involved in those) this creates an interesting experience in ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Twice as nice? (505 words)

The Second Age was, until recently, the Ultima Online being released in shops. Those that had brought the original Ultima Online were provided with a patch to upgrade them to the latest version. Recently, the Ultima Online: Renaissance patch was released, and this is what is being released in shops now. But we're here to talk about The Second Age. The Second Age basically has the same advantages and disadvantages of the original Ultima Online - The graphics are quite basic, but enough for what the game requires. A fee is required to be paid each month (Around £6 a month), which is fair, but bad for players that are a bit short in the moolah ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Ultima Online: the Second Age: ULTIMAte Game  (243 words)

I got this game for £2.50 so I was smiling already, and when you play the game you will carry on smiling. Firstly I will explain what the game is, its basically a new life in a new world, set many years ago, in the medievil times, with dragons and crossbows. Your aim really is just to live and make your profession even if it is as a fisherman or as a adventurer. Thats basically it, but it really is good. The bad news is that after the first month you have to pay a monthly fee, of about £8.00 for the up keep of the game, thats a real disadvantage and i don't really think that you should have to do this on any game, unless you can afford it. ...  Read the complete review
