Kam KCA 1200 Power Amplifier:
... ve heard (and read) mixed reviews on Kam DJ products and so was a bit reluctant to buy a Kam amp to use in my main DJ set up. I went to a DJ store and tested a number of amps and settled on this one. The Kam KCA 1200 was one of the better performing and cheapest options in the output range I wanted. NAD C320 ... the years, I have owned a lot of amplifiers, and thats because I always want to try out something new, after all, that way, you know which product is the best. In general, people seem to think that amplier cost a lot of money, but this one only set me back just over £150, not much consdiering. The thing that I like about this amp, is that it makes any sized speakers seem like cinema speakers, much to the disapporval of my neighbours, and it gets to the point where I had to put this amp in the garage and sound proof it as it made so much noise. Bryston BP26 ... was auditioning some speakers with this preamp a few weeks ago, which was also connected up with the company s 4BSST power amp. and a seperate power supply (pictured)First impressions were that the build quality was exellent! Hooked up a pair of monitor audio speakers though and the whole system sounded a touch brighton the lead vocal, so much so that i had to change CD s . Bearing in ming i had heard the same spoeakers albeit on a diferent system, and they were fine then, so we swapped the speakers over for a pair of proac response D15 s Listening to springsteens "magic" with this amplifier didnt to the speakers or the cd any justice at all. Yamaha DSP-AX763 ... I should say that when properly setup the sound from this amplifier is quite simply excellent. However, setting it up is less simple than it might first appear Listening to this amp after completing the easy automatic setup process using the supplied microphone I was massively disappointed. The sound was very harsh, with little bass, and wasn t a patch on the aging Marantz SR4200 that I had replaced. So, deciding that with the many good reviews floating around it must be something I had done and not the amp that had the problems I spent some time going through the menus and manually setting it up.
