Naim Nait 3: ... have owned the Nait 3 for a year now and bought it just before Naims new 5 series came out. At first i was gutted until I realised that new is not always better. Anyone who has ever heard Naim gear will know that they do not hold the usual HiFi criteria in high regard. They eschew stereo image and soundstage to make sure that their gear can hold a tune and is as musical as possible. This involves making sure t...

... Boom, Boom, Dah, Boom. “Will you shut that racket up!”? “Sorry, Aghhh, you little *!” Boom, Boom, Boom, Dah, BOOM. Bang, Bang. “Yes?” “Look you loud neighbour, turn that music down.” “I tried”, I plead. “Liar” is the retort from annoyed neighbour. So I showed her. “Aghhh”, as I flew across the living room with a shock, having tried to turn the volume down. Yes, modern amplifiers are an upset bunch all that power and never allowed to use it. Some of them rebel, to the detriment of your relations with other human beings. OK I joke, but all that power that we...

... (except at very high volumes), the sheer control this amp has is quite amazing. The result is an exciting listen that really makes the most out of any music collection. And if you are obsessed with bursting your ear drums before you hit the age of 40, do not be fooled by the modest output rating. Trust me, it goes quite loud. After running in (make sure not to judge the sound your system makes straight away, they do need to we "worn in" a little"), and being connected to a decent pair of speakers, you can't go far wrong with an Amplifier like this. ...

... equipment goes Phut, oh yes my old integrated stereo system went phut and then there was no music. Oh no, I hear you cry, what will a young man do without his stereo. Well simple, use it as an excuse to start buying separates. To the girls out there these are separate hi-fi components, rather than just an integrated unit that performs everything. (Sorry if that was sexist to the girls in the know, the author is just going on his own experience.) So I needed an amplifier and speakers, I already had a separate CD player. Now your amplifier or amp as most males know it, is the component that amplifies the sound from the CD player and drives the speakers. Th...
