Roland Cube 30X Amplifier
Advantages: Cheap, easy to work, varied settings, mobile
Disadvantages: Wouldn't recommend for large gigs, better amps if you're willing to pay morful this year
I've been playing guitar for a good few years, and while I've never been in a serious band (only a bit of messing around with friends before) I have still tried to buy relatively good equipment. I bought this amp after it was recommended to be by a friend, and that's a decision I haven't regretted!
I've had this amp for about 4 years now and it still sounds very clear and crisp, which is much better than some of the amps my friends have (which require replacing every couple of years or so). This amp is a great starter amp, and comes with a variety of features. You are able to set chorus, phaser, tremolo or flanger effects to your guitar, along with reverb and delay effects. You are able to vary the strength of these effects and it adds a large dynamical range to the songs you can play. The amp has a 'power squeezer' option for when you want to play with gain and sustain on fully but not play too loudly, and this is very useful for those late night guitar sessions where you don't want to wake others up!
The amp has several different gain settings meaning that you are able to play in many different styles very easily, and quickly change between an acoustic guitar to a heavy metal sound, and onto other sounds as well. The amp is fairly compact compared to other amps that I have seen, and is fairly light/ easy to carry around, which makes it great for if you are going to friends' houses to jam and don't want to have to take a truck loaded with equipment. The amp is also of good value for money, at around £160ish, and is a great starter!
I would not recommend this amp for more professional musicians, or for people who are looking to gig quite a lot of the time, as you will be able to get far better amps out there with much less basic settings, though they will be a lot more expensive and will be a lot less portable!
To summarise, this amp is great for people who are just looking for a relatively small, relatively cheap easy to work amp which is not going to be used for large gigs or shows. It comes with many different settings which make it very easy to use and so perfect for the beginner or any non-professional guitar player!
Summary: Great for a starter amp!
