Advantages: Great sound for the price, Attractive and Well made, Powerful
Disadvantages: none
I purchased this amplifier about a year ago, and I have been extremely pleased with it. I am a student in music technology, so I am quite picky when it comes to audio equipment, but this is a fantastic amplifier for the price. >Value< Unfortunalely, due to my financial standing as a student, I was limited to around £100-150. I would ideally want a mid-range amplifier such as a Denon, but at this price range you will only get a low wattage model. I have 120w floor-standing speakers, so I decided to go for this Sony beast, which has a power handling of 140w RMS (70W per channel, stereo). 'Bang per buck' is excellent here' >First Impressions and Aesthetics< First impressions were good - build and appearance are of typical Sony quality. The amplifier comes in black as standard, but mine is the TA-FE370S (silver). The device is simple to set up - and the included remote control will also operate other Sony seperates if you have them (convenient, but useless for me as my CD player is a Kenwood). Sony remote controls always ooze quality and ease of use - this is no exception. I have the amplifier connected to this CD player, as well as my PC (for music playback/recording, games, DVD etc). >Sound Quality< Frequency response is good, although I find myself manually increasing the tone controls often (particularly the treble). The 'loudness' button is supposed to increase both bass and treble at low volumes, but I found this a bit wimpy - I never bother with it, and just adjust the tone controls by hand. However, once you have the amp set up to your personal preference, the sound quality is excellent. It will only sound as good as your speakers allow it, however :) The excess power is very handy - the high power handling allows you to crank the volume up to neighbour-assaulting levels without any distortion (depending on your speakers, of course). >Connectivity< There are inputs for 6 soun
d sources, which is very helpful, allowing you to connect Tape, MD, CD, Tuner, Phono AND Aux (eg TV) at the same time. >Conclusion< Overall, this is a great sounding and very powerful stereo amplifier from a good brand at an amazing price. If you are looking for power and performance on a budget, then you cannot go wrong with this! Dave. More information can be found at: http://products.sony.co.uk/productdetail.asp?i d=7_75_357
