Dave_UK Sony TA FE370: ... due to my financial standing as a student, I was limited to around £100-150. I would ideally want a mid-range amplifier such as a Denon, but at this price range you will only get a low wattage model. I have 120w floor-standing speakers, so I decided to go for this Sony beast, which has a power handling of 140w RMS (70W per channel, stereo). 'Bang per buck' is excellent here' >First Impressions and...

soundman Sony TA FE230
... you are looking for a no frills amplifier that has the power to drive a range of loudspeakers then the Sony TA-FE230 is a good choice. This is a straight stereo amplifier offering basic facilities with 6 inputs and 2 outputs through phono connectors mounted at the rear of the chassis. These comprise a 'Phono' input for a turntable, Tuner, CD, Aux, and 2 Tape inputs plus 2 Tape outputs that enable recording and a headphone socket on the front panel. Operation is very simple, a push button to switch on and off, a large round knob to control the volume and next to that is another large rotary knob for selecting the various sources. This has a small lamp pointe...

Amorrio_m Sony TA FB940/S
... years ago, I have bought this Sony amplifier TA-FB920 (940 is a follow-up one with slight modifications), after a good review I read in a magazine. Like all Sony products, it had an excellent price/functionality and price/quality ratios. Like with most Sony products (at least my experience), trouble with those ratios is that they do NOT last. It broke down after 3 years of much-less-than normal usage and Sony made me pay 35% of the original price for the repairs. In my accounts, it is a lot of money to waste on a 3,5 year old already expensive (or upper mid-market) amplifier. Come on! these things are supposed to for last years! My previous amplifier (Maran...

Sony TA-FE330
... "330" amp is proberably one of the best intermediate amps on the market with a couple of features some more expensive models are lacking. One of the main benefits is the extra inputs this model has - two tape loops (mini-disc, dat, dcc and CD recorders go through tape loops) although, sadly, Sony haven't thought of people wanting to use these decks to connect to one another as not all have digital connectivity. A phone stage is also here so you don't need to use a noisy pre-amp on your turntable. There is an auxillary input but I would have liked to see at least two sets of aux inputs as the whole concept of seperates is to have what you n...
