Ordering Dreamweaver 3 I saw the Studio upgrade option including a program called Firworks, it said it was a image editer designed for the web. Lets give it a go I thought. Paid for the £149 upgrade and haven't looked back since. Fireworks 3 is without a doubt the best web graphic editer on the market (until V4 comes out). After using many other packages to make web grapgics the intiutive interface of Fireworks come as some sort of dream. Whether you are making ani gifs or compressing your jpegs Fireworks does it fast, clean and easy. If that wasn't enough it write it's own HTML for advanced javascript rollerovers and and navagation systems, nice clean HTML which is a real bonus because you don't have to spend 18 hours in notepad deleting usless tags. And integration with Dreamweaver is a real time saver, make it in fireworks then inport into Dreamweaver or any other HTML package! Thank you MACROMEDIA!!!!

What a great program - in my eyes Macromedia can do no wrong! This graphics package I received as part of the Dreamweaver 3 Suite, and it is the perfect companian to a perfect HTML program! Fireworks 3, runs along the same lines a the infamous Paint Shop Pro and the devine Adobe Photoshop (which is incidentally my favourite graphics package of all time!) providing quick and easy graphics editing to JPEGs GIFs and the new(ish) PNG format (pixelated net graphic) and others such as TIFFs and WMFs. It provides all the features that you would expect imcluding the new ImageMap feature. You can open an image, draw an image map over the top and Fireworks will either integrate it into Dreamweaver or it can display the HTML code to use in any other editor - good eh! Looking at it from a web designers point of view I use it all the time and find it a brilliant piece of software and the JPEG compression is just great! If you want a great graphics package (whether you own Dreamweaver or not) get this one!

Fireworks is an excellent product for creating Logos, Banners and GIF Animations. It is not a very simple program to use initially, but after a few days of learning you soon get the hang of it. I have now created all of the Logo's, Banners and Animated Images for my web-sites using this product. I used to use Paintshop Pro, but I now use Fireworks all the time, the main reason for this is the export wizard which allows you to export your images in many different formats and a preview is displayed showing the different formats. Also the ability to create animations in the same program is great (without having to startup a seperate program to do the animations). I bought this product as a bundle with Dreamweaver 3, therefore it was excellent value for money. Anybody wishing to create lots of images for web-sites really should have a look at this product, even if you only use it for it's export wizard functionality.

This is a program created for webdesign! and let me tell you it is fantastic at what it does. I would have to tell you that this is one of my main tools for webdesign and it is so easy to use and powerfull to. Maybe not as powerfull as Photoshop though it is for a totally different media and so the people who compare these really need to remember that! Fireworks is made for working on site design and so you will generally work at 72dpi and with Photoshop you work at around 300dpi! (see the difference?). Anyway you would be mad to miss out on this program considering its low cost, and it is sooooo very useful!

Since my first delve into web design a good five years ago, I have been on the search for a product that will make things appear so very simple. When I was told by a friend about Macromedia Fireworks, I imagined it to be a purely graphical program. Although it does help in this front immensely, it manages to write some pretty complicated script for you to use, but the product is still not without it's flaws. The first time you load it, you may be overwhelmed by the amount of toolboxes at your disposal, but don't let this put you off. Load up the tutorial, including image rollovers and picture swaps and all will appear a whole lot clearer leaving you to think seriously about what you want your particular page to look like. Remember though, that it will just be that, a page, and nothing more. For an entire site, text is used in abundance, written straight into the source code in HTML, but Fireworks cannot support this kind of text, merely web-compatible images that portray the lettering. In order to create a full page, it is necessary to create menus and titles in Fireworks, and then arrange them on screen in a program such as Dreamweaver, Fireworks' sister program. As far as creating imaging goes, Fireworks is a nifty bit of kit. Many shapes can be created and integrated into tables, with effects such as drop shadows and textures being easily accessible. The end result is all written in tabular form, fully compatible with modern browsers. There are a few quibbles that i think could be avoided. Firstly, and quite importantly, Fireworks exports everything in the same picture format. This may seem a strange thing to point out, but softened edges appear better in jpeg format, whereas strong text is always clearer, and sometimes a smaller file size, when in gif format. Another picture problem involves animated gifs. The help menu tells you to import them to the point where you want them, and it pulls them apart into their constituent frames , turning the entire screen into an animated gif which really isnt practical. To avoid this, I recommend importing still images and then altering the HTML later. Similarly, if you want different file formats, save two versions, one in gif, the other jpeg, and swap the files over, altering the code as you go. So, these format points aside, Fireworks suits a range of developers, from the young to old, novice to professional. All can benefit from neatly laid out graphics, and smart javascript effects.

We went from PaintShopPro to FireWorks and what a shock that was! FireWorks has to be one of the best graphics programs you can get, we use it in conjunction with DreamWeaver but if there was anything we couldnt be without, FireWorks is it. Everything from groovy button and backgrounds, to the complete navigation bar, animations, distortions, absolutely amazing text and image effects... you name it, its got it. The bad side is you cant just jump in and get it right first time, or second or third for that matter, the instruction manual is a definite must. But once you get the hang of it, you are onto a winner. Oh yes , and the price isnt exactly user friendly but its definitely worth it if you are seriously into your graphics.

Just like the rest of Macromedia's products this one is truly web enabled. The perfect utility to help you make your rich media site. The biggest advantage of using this type of software compared to others such as paint shop or photoshop is that it has automatic antialiasing meaning that even the smallest speck or curvacious bezier is free from jagged lines and distortion. A predominantly vector based package, this wioll enhance your website no end and the results, even with limited time input, will look stunning. An example of the type of graphics this package can produce is the eye catching "napster" logo. I know a few friends who use this program and they all think the same. Stay one step ahead of your competition!

Fireworks is a very hard program to use, but when mastered the results are spectaculor. I recently bought this product as I make web site graphics and some that I have produced are really good. There are many options included within this program such as distortion or speacial effect but I feel the most effective part of this package is the text effects. There are many different fills such as charchoal or oil that can go around the text, and for anyone who are making web sites the text effects are marvelous. My verdict is that there are many option but they are hard to leanr. So what I did was searched on the net for help on fireworks and on the Macromedia web site and eventually I mastered Fireworks....what a brilliant package

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Fireworks is a very complicated program to use - and I don't care what anyone says. This application has a ridiculous amount of features and uses- if you want to spend at least the rest of you life trying to learn them. The best thing though about this program is the compression features which are absolulty brilliant and the best on the market. You can shrink wrap your GIFS and JPEG's etc. to manageable icons while still keeping the colour and quality. Fireworks actually splits the page into a 4 split window pane with up to 4 different versions of the same compressed image eg. as a GIF as a JPEG as a PNG etc. The only bad thing is the program keeps on asking me if i want to save my new files as PNGs? a well as my choosen fomat, How do i turn this feature off ? I find most of the features though just too awkward and to use though, you can not use common sense with this program - the instructions and help books are needed. Once learned though and you will be splicing and hot spotting your way to some really slick HTML pages. Its too big an application- not for beginners
