Macromedia Fireworks - a rather unusual name for a program whose concept is yet so simple. If you are anything like me you may have stumbled accross this program after searching through the many photo editing packages available on today's market. Usual a stumble is something that impedes one's progress however in this case it was the complete opposite. Prior to this program I had very little image editing experience and this is what really got me involved in the subject. It taught me the many foundation skills which I now, unfortunately, take for granted. Such as the ability to create custom crop areas, arrange layers, use magic wand tool etc. Fireworks also gave me a brief insight into resolution settings and image formats. Formats were particularly useful as prior to Fireworks I was unfamiliar with the transparent layer ability in the image type .png . I now use Adobe's photoshop (not to its full potential must I add), however for the elements of screen capturing and resizing images I nearly always revert back to Fireworks to do such task. So my advice, if you have never used image editing software in the past then Fireworks is the program for you!
