When I was a kid my mum used to love the fragrance of Coty L'aimant and it was also my father's favourite. The scent had unique, identifiable notes that meant it was unforgettable. As I grew older I assumed that the fragrance had been discontinued and I was surprised to find this can of body deodorant at my local store. I bought it out of nostalgia but I've grown rather partial to it!
L'aimant is a French word meaning 'magnet'. I have always associated the fragrance with romance and partnership and in fact the fragrance was created by Francois Coty for the woman he loved. This fragrance has been around for decades now and as such it has a reputation as being slightly old fashioned and tailored for the older generation. I personally feel that if you like a fragrance you should wear it no matter what your age however I can't deny that this does remind me of the past and is something I would normally identify with older ladies.
The fragrance is actually a lot more complex than I imagine it to be with top notes of bergamot, neroli, peach, and aldehydes, heart notes of geranium, rose, orchid, golden jasmine and ylang-ylang and base notes of Vetiver, musk, vanilla, sandalwood, tonka bean and cedar. Combined it has a very thick floral vibe, slightly smoky and sophisticated. I find the musk very prevalent along with some fresh fruity tones.
The deodorant body spray comes in a 75ml can. This has a standard press down spray button on the top and a lid. The design of the bottle is quite nice and looks very posh and formal. It's a dark pink bottle with some vague floral patterns behind the logo. It looks exactly as I remember it looking when I was ten so it's either a classic design or slightly out dated. I personally would love to see a little bit of updating so it might appeal to younger consumers. The can is lightweight and easy to carry in a handbag. The canister can also be recycled after use.
The spray is cooling and refreshing and is just as effective as other brands like Impulse or Charlie. It's a fragrance that is prominent and lasting and which can be applied all over the body. When I use this spray I feel very clean and fresh all of the time. It's a fragrance that generates that 'just out of the shower' feeling.
I really like this fragrance overall.I don't think it's suitable for everyone though. I think it is more likely to appeal to older ladies or women who grew up with a mum who used it. However, I wouldn't put younger consumers off trying it as I feel it's worth discovering. It's also a perfume that may not appeal to certain personality types.
This is available in selected stores and it usually costs me £1 to buy which I feel is a good price.
=Coty L'aimant Deordrant Body Spray=
I always have body sprays on the go, as I find that whilst deordrant gives me the protection from odour, but I feel more confident with a top up of body spray, and the one that I am presently using is the Coty Spray.
=Price and Availability=
I paid around £1.50 for this spray from Wilkinsons, it is available from retailers such as Boots, Chemists, discount stores and supermarkets. The price can vary from £1 to £2 depending on where you have brought it from.
This is a 75ml spray, and is in a metal container, the lid is plastic, they are both red in design, and to spray you press down the spray on the main body of the can. The product is clearly labelled as being by Coty, and on the reverse of the packet is some information regarding the spray and instructions on how to use.
Coty explain that the scent is rose, orchid, golden jasmine, sandlewood and Vanilla. it also says the fragrance lasts up to 14 hours, which I haven't experienced 14 hours, but have noticed 8 hours of the fragrance.
I know this is a body spray, but it holds a lot of elements of a perfume to it, from the way that the fragrances are mixed together, and how the scent works.
-Base Notes -
I found that the rose and jasmine immediately come to the forefront of the fragrance this was quite a heavy smell, I wanted to say don't fight your all get your chance to shine,
After about the first hour, I noticed a change in the smell of the body spray, and next came the sandlewood, this had a woody feel, and this seems to be the longest element, only later on in the day did I notice a faint smell of Vanilla.
In all honestly I just wanted to get into a shower and get rid of the body spray, I felt it to be very over powering and it reminded me a bit of air freshner that you would need to use to cover the mask from a pair of smelly shoes.
=Would I buy again=
I am really sorry to say but I only used the spray once, and for me that was enough, if I could have jumped into a shower any earlier I would have done. Whilst I like strong perfumes, this for me was too strong and not the right mix. Sorry.
I have been a huge fan of coty L'aimant for a very long time. It was the first body spray and perfume bought to for me by my parents when I was twelve for christmas being thirty four I am still addicted to it!
Comes in a dard pink spray bottle with coty L'aimant clearly shown at the top. There'es a picture of flowers on the front. the spray contains 75ml. The Coty range is developed in Paris and New York and this one is made in the U.K. The canister can be recycled it is made of aluminium. The bottle contains exotic water lily blended with sandlewood and jasmine. This spray should only be used as a body spray and not for intimate use.
My best mate Melanie is a fan of the stuff too. She treated me to this thanks mate!
Comes in a pretty spray looks good in any ladies handbag. I use this just after showering or to fresen up during the day or night out. It has a strong smell of Lillies and orchid and you can smell notes of jasmine and sandlewood. This is a truely girly girl scent for all ages. The smell lingers on for around two hours I think that is good considering the price. You maty be a fan of celeb body sprays and think this is old fashioned I say give it a go you willl be hooked like me once you have tried it!
Available from all good supermarkets/ chemists around £1.50 a spray.
~Fragrance the old fashioned way~
Based around the classic fragrance created by the Coty fragrance house in 1927 the Coty L'Aimant deodorant body spray is an easy to wear all over body spray product, that can be worn as a stand alone body fragrance or can be layered with the fragrance itself to give a stronger more enduring scent. I have worn the body spray for day wear and found that it is a long lasting body spray that can emit a fresh and classic scent for a number of hours before it needs to be refreshed. I feel that the body spray can give a touch of old fashioned glamour without being too over powering or bright and its pretty enveloping fragrance is an easy one to wear over the course of the day.
The Coty L'Aimant body spray comes packed into an easy to use spray can that is small enough to be popped into a handbag when going out. When doing so I haven't had any issues with the product leaking into my bag and the plastic lid that tops the spray can off, generally manages to stay in place unless it is knocked about to vigorously with the rest of the contents of a bag or case. I feel confident that I can take the body spray with me when needed and it won't let me down when I need to use it.
~Classic Coty L'Aimant~
The colour theme of the body spray can is in a deep salmon pink tone which is in keeping with the colour theme used for the perfume istelf. The brand name and product name are clearly displayed on the front of the body spray set into an off white panel with gold toned edging. I rather like the salmon and pale pink tones used to colour the body spray can, although it does give off a rather dated look in this case, I feel it is very much in keeping with the way the fragranced body spray smells and so I am able to embrace and enjoy it for what it is.
The body spray is easy to use and can be lightly spritzed all over the body as required. I find the spray applicator emits a good amount of the body spray with a light press on the top of it if all I want is a quick burst of fragrance. I have found that for a more consistent misting effect, its better to push down very gently on the spray applicator and then keep your finger there lightly for long enough to mist your whole body with as much or as little of the spray to suit your mood. This ensures a much more even coverage in my experience.
~The classic Coty scent~
Coty say that the body spray product evokes a feeling of 'romance' and uses a combination of rose, orchid, golden jasmine, sandalwood and warm vanilla to give its signature warm floral and slightly creamy and powdery scent. I feel that the florals in the body spray are pretty, if a little old fashioned and they allow the fragrance to soften over time and become a softer vanilla based powdery fragrance that sits well on the skin for a good number of hours.
When I first spray on the body spray I do feel there is a light refreshing almost citrus toned burst to it and it gives an initial freshness that is pleasant on a warm day. The florals in the body spray envelope in an embracing way that makes the body spray easy to wear in most situations and I have never had any issues with the fragranced body spray being too strong or overpowering.
I like the way the body spray has that same creamy feel that the fragrance itself has and I feel it makes a perfect base for wear alongside it. I feel that the way the fragrance works on the skin evokes a soft and feminine air that is very easy to enjoy. It has a classic appeal that can be worn by women both young and old with equal success and I feel it has much to offer modern fragrance buyers as it has something that sets it apart from many other products.
~ The price~
The Coty L'Aimant fragranced body spray can be a very easy and light way to enjoy the Coty L'Aimant fragrance and as it is reasonably priced I feel it offers good value as a daily wear body spray product. A 75ml spray can containing the product is no more than £2.30 and can very often be found for less by shopping around. At the moment Boots have the fragranced body spray reduced to £1.53 which compares well with other similar body spray products.
I feel that whilst the Coty L'Aimant fragrance body spray may give off a slightly vintage and old ladyish image it is still a very pretty and wearable body spray product that lasts well on the skin. It is very easy to wear and will not offend or compete with other fragrances around it if worn for work wear or in crowded places as long as it is used lightly.
~Summary and rating~
To get the best from the body spray its best to try it first and see how it works for you as it will perform slightly differently on different people. For a deep more full on effect all you need to do is spritz on a little more and the body spray will do its best to boost the pretty fragrance just enough to make it stand out. The spray is easy to use and should last a reasonable time when used sparingly.
In order to rate the Coty L'Aimant fragrance body spray I feel that I need to take into account both the reasonable purchase price and the way the body spray works when applied to the skin. As it works so well and is very pleasing to wear I feel it ought to get 4 stars. It may not give off a modern and funky aura and that may put some people off a little, however my advice would be to give it a chance to prove what it can do and you may find it offers much more than some of the overly fruity modern body sprays do.
I grew up with the smell of Coty L'aimant which was one of my grandmother's favourite fragrances. My gran used to let my sisters and me spray on a little of this fragrance and we loved feeling so grown up. Recently however, an older member of the family gave me a little gift of Coty L'aimant Deodorant Body Spray and it brought the members of my childhood straight back.
This little deodorant body spray usually costs around £2 or less for this 75ml bottle. The bottle is a pinky colour with a matching lid. On the front of the bottle, there is little information apart from the logo of Coty L'aimant.
On the reverse of bottle, it states that this fragrance offers the 'romance of rose, orchid and golden jasmine, softly embraced by Sandalwood and Vanilla.'
This coty l'aimant spray has a very distinctive fragrance although at the same time it offers a light flowery scent that lingers but it not too strong. So far, since starting to use this spray, I have found that it does linger on my body, and can be still be smelt some hours later, however it does not last the duration of the day. It is a useful spray to take to work to freshen up and leave you feeling flowery fresh.
It is not the most modern of fragrances, and no doubt will for a lot of people remind them of a grandmother's fragrance, but I don't think that is such a bad thing, and regardless of the fact that there are more modern fragrances out there, is remains a light, sweet flowery fragrance that is lovely.
Soon it will be Mothers Day again and like many I struggle to think of a gift to give to my elderly Mum, I say elderly lol but she is most certainly young at heart. It is no good what so ever giving her anything for her home, it is already full to overflowing with everything under the sun. Her lounge resembles an art gallery and every nook and cranny is filled with some trinket or another, of course they all have some sentimental value so she is loath to part with any of them.
At one time she enjoyed to go out for Sunday lunch but now she prefers to be in her own home.
`Smellies` are a bit of a standing joke in many families but if someone gives me some soap, talcum or body spray I am more than happy simply because it is something that I wouldnt usually go out and treat myself to.
Mum loves smellies too so last year I bought her talcum and flowers and this year I am plumping for something along those lines again.
Fragrance has to be given consideration as we get older, it is no good me jumping in at the deep end and buying Mum a bottle of Victoria Beckhams latest creation, it just won`t wash.
The tendancy is to stick to what I know she likes, Yardley fragrances are just the job and Coty are on a par.
Mum loves the cans of body spray and especially Coty L`aimant. I went into Boots the chemist to pick up a prescription and noticed that the Coty range was all on offer. A 150 ml spray usually retails at around £2.25 but the offer price was just £1.80. I picked up two cans knowing that they would be appreciated.
The aerosol can itself is attractive, a slimline can which will fit into a handbag easily. The can is a beautiful classic shade of red and the colour on the can has been marbled for effect.
There is a plastic pull off top which covers a wide spray nozzle.
You can use this spray sparingly, the perfume is not overly strong but it does stand out. The floral fragrance is feminine and delicate and the notes are bergamot, peach, strawberry, neroli, rose, jasmine, vanilla, vetiver, sandlewood and ylang ylang.
Take care when you use the spray, the aerosol releases the spray quickly and you could be well and truly plastrered before you knew it.
Although the frgrance is light and floral it does last and frequently throughout the day you will notice a whiff passing you by.
They do make the fragrance in an Eau De Toilette spray and a skin cream but Mum doesnt wear either of those. she does use talcum though and the Coty L`Aimant talcum was on offer at £2.50 for 100g. The talcum is equally as lovely, as fine as dust and as soft as silk.
I`m sure that my Mothers Day present will be well received this year, not extravagant by any means but a token gesture it certainly is.
With my favourite ever perfume being Coty L'aimant it goes without saying I'd use the body spray alongside with it quite a lot. I do like body sprays for lasting all over fragrancing along with the matching perfumes I buy as I feel it's a dab of luxury! I do like to occasionally just use a body spray as well for a bit of a dash of fragrance particular in the summer months instead of perfume.
75ml aluminium, recyclable rose coloured long cylinder shaped bottle with matching lid that covers a white plastic aerosol button. On the front it's plain pink apart from a white square and in that in gold and pink writing I'm told it is Coty L'aimant and at the bottom in small white writing I'm told it is Deodorant Body Spray. On the back all in white writing I'm told a bit about the fragrance, directions for use are given, cautions, ingredients, contact details for Coty are given, and the flammable, recycle and aluminum symbols are shown as is the size once again stated (as I've listed already) and finally there is bar-code. To me it looks rather elegant and interesting but it is old fashioned looking but nice and feminine at the same time.
A bit About The Fragrance (According To The The Back Of The Bottle)....
The romance of Rose, Orchid and Golden Jasmine, softly embraced by Sandalwood and Vanilla.
Directions For Use....
Shake before use. Hold can 15cm (6 inches) from body and spray.
Well I've owned lots of these body sprays over the years and I can vouch for the fact the bottle is always of good quality never once have I had a problem with the push button sprayer or anything.
The smell is a heady and heavy mix of Rose, Jasmine and Sandalwood to my nostrils. It's very sweet, rich, layered and in your face fragrance wise. It's distinctive and unusual and very womanly. For me I don't spray it too heavy on my body and it lasts a good 14 hours on the skin. It enbeds onto clothes and if you cuddle someone wearing it, it does transfer off though it does wash off the body simply when you want to remove it and of course washes out of clothes on a 30c wash. It's so long lasting and heavy in it's smell though I wouldn't advise this to be used with other perfumes apart from Coty L'aimant as it really is heavy so best using like for like products with this product.
Gorgeous...providing you like the smell so I advise a sniff test before purchase if your not familiar with the smell. It smells just the same as the perfume, note for note and it's a very long laster. I simply love it and it's my top favourite fragrance of all time. Do be aware this one will get you noticed and people don't seem to approve of the heaviness of it!
About £1.89 and readily available! Do look out for offers as I recently stocked up on this at Wilkinson's at £1.29 a can and it's quite often on offer in stores 2 for £2.00 as well.
