I have used Dove Original roll on antiperspirant and deodorant for many years now and it is a staple of my daily routine. The roll on comes in a tapered plastic bottle with a cap on the rollerball end. This cap also forms the base, so if you keep it standing on its cap you get every last bit of product out and none is wasted.
The deodorant itself is white and creamy in texture. It include moisturising cream, so it doesn't irritate the skin even if you use it straight after shaving. I have never suffered from dry skin or irritation using this deodorant, as I have with others. The cream can take a few minutes to dry or sink in, so it's best to wait just a a little while before getting dressed afterwards. If you don't, then you may find you get a bit of a greasy residue on your clothes.
The Dove Original deodorant has a pleasant scent which is fresh and slightly soapy, without being too sickly or overpowering. Once on it really just smells quite nice and clean. It's a mild fragrance, and won't fight with your perfume or any scented body lotions you might use.
I find that one application of this deodorant is usually enough to keep me fresh and dry for the day. Even if you do find yourself on a hot and crowded tube train, it seems to do a good job of stopping odour developing.
My only complaint would be that the way the cap screws on isn't very secure. A few times when I have put this deodorant in my sponge bag to take away with me, I've opened the bag later to find that the cap has come off.
Dove antiperspirant deodorant original can be purchased in most chemists and supermarkets. It usually costs around £2.30 but can often be purchased on offer or as part of a 3 for 2 type deal.
I am a regular user of Dove's Go Fresh deodorant range and think these are great. However, I was really disappointed when I tried the original version recently when my local shop had run out of Go Fresh.
The deodorant is packaged in a roller ball tube which stands upright on its lid. The bottle is white with a blue screw cap and contains 75ml bof deodorant.
Doves advertising has always stuck with me and I have found their soap to be extremely moisturising as they promised. They also claim that this deodorant has a 1/4 moisturising formula to look after the sensitive skin under your arms. I don't doubt that it does, but I do doubt whether this is necessary! For me the moisturising property of a deodorant is not the main selling point. I am more interested in whether it works and what the fragrance is like.
The antiperspirant works well as you would expect from a brand such a dove. It keeps me feeling fresh all day and does not leave white marks on my clothing like some other products do. However I find the fragrance to be quite unpleasant. It is difficult to describe but it just smells like deodorant rather than anything else and is too strong. I find myself getting wafts of the original fragrance throughout the day and my clothes pick up the scent very easily. Perhaps I am more sensitive to the smell because I don't like it or because I am not used to it but I have to say that I will not be getting used to it! I will not be buying this product again and will not even be finishing the one I purchased. I much prefer the Go Fresh roll on deodorants from Dove. I am therefore only awarding it 2 dooyoo hearts.
I mainly use a crystal stick deodorant now but before I adopted that method, I used to switch deodorant brands often. I found a few of those in the bathroom cupboard so I decided I should at least use them up before they went to waste. I had started them so they wouldn't be much good to pass on! The Dove Original roll on anti-perspirant/deodorant isn't something I would buy again even if the circumstances were different but that isn't because it is a poor product - I just don't like the scent.
I paid a pound for this in Poundworld. I wouldn't have paid more than that for a simple roll on because the shop offers a big range of big brands for that price. It is currently on sale for £2.30 in Boots however. The roll on is 50ml which is not the largest around. This and the full price makes me feel it isn't great value for money despite the fact it works. So do cheaper products after all, so for me it would have to do something above and beyond the average to warrant the price.
The packaging is bullet shaped with a curved top. It looks distinctive but I think conventional shapes are a little easier to hold. On the plus side, it can be stood upright with the lid as a base which is handy as it keeps the product directed down towards the roller ball. That means it works right away. Stiff roller balls can really drag on your skin as I just discovered when trialling an unnamed deodorant recently. Those one works well - the roller delivers a decent amount of the deodorant and rolls smoothly and comfortably. It doesn't make my under arms feel too "wet" and they are definitely not sticky. I think this product would feel great to apply on a day when it is warm already for that reason. I don't feel that I need to wait around an irritatingly long time for the stuff to dry which is another big plus for me. A few minutes never feels longer than when I am wanting to get dressed.
The scent is very obvious when I take the cap off. I don't think it smells very much of other Nivea products in particular such as the iconic crème. There is a little of that but in general it smells heavy and a bit soapy to me. In fact if I sniff it closely, I tend to sneeze. Now my sister whose nose I have just stuck the Dove under thinks the smell is relatively strong as well but she would also call it fresh and likes it a lot more than me. I think I would appreciate it a bit better if it was milder, so for me it isn't an advantage that I can smell the deodorant on my skin to the end of the day. I can also catch a clear whiff of it if I move my arms which I could do without! Having said that, I don't think much body odour would stand a chance of getting past it so the aroma has it's advantages I suppose.
DOES IT WORK?
The anti -perspirant doesn't really need any help. I haven't suffered any wet marks under my arms and my skin there has always felt comfortable when using the Dove. I have one desk bound job and one outdoors and active one and I have felt confident in using this deodorant when attending both. Commuting also puts it to the test and even on the longest journeys I have felt protected. I can't say it has ever let me down sweat odour wise, so it is a shame the product scent itself doesn't appeal to me. The deodorant packaging claims it will work for 24 hours which seems almost standard now. I won't be putting that to the test but it lasts as long as I realistically need it to.
I associate Dove products with looking after the skin. This deodorant is supposed to do just that with it's quarter moisturising cream and no alcohol formula. I don't have sensitive skin and so I am not surprised that I fund this gentle in use. I don't think my skin felt in any better condition overall though. My skin doesn't feel softer or smoother for example. However, I have alternated using this with my crystal stick and a spray on deodorant from a different brand so it may be I would have noticed more of a difference if I used nothing but the Dove one day after day.
WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS?
Overall, although the scent isn't for me, I would still recommend this to others as it is effective at what it does. If you like the smell, you will appreciate how well it lasts - unless you want to wear a perfume that may clash. I wouldn't pay full price though as I think you can get cheaper products that work just as well. For a £1 it is a good enough deal.
I've used this deodorant for years, in both this roll on form and the spray form. For everyday use I like to use roll on as although a part of me thinks that the spray is more effective, I don't like the idea of breathing in half the cloud of deodorant you spray with those things every day, and unless I'm going to be doing a lot of intense exercise it doesn't make any difference to me.
I really like this product, as for me it does exactly what an Anti-perspirant /Deodorant should and is very long lasting . It's also very gentle, probably due to the 1/4 moisturiser it claims to contain, and is excellent (particularly if you shave your underarms) . I also like that this smells very similar to the basic dove soap it seems simple and clean which I prefer to heavily perfumed deodorants.
This is generally priced at around £1.50-2 for a 50ml bottle, but can often be found on special offer somewhere, so I generally stock up if I see it for a particularly good price. Its very easy to get hold of as it can be found in almost all chemists, big supermarkets etc. .
This is a review of Dove Anti-perspirant Deodorant Roll-on which I have been using as a change from my usual favourite, Mitchum. I wanted to give my armpits a rest as they were getting a little dry and so I bought the Dove Original roll on which has been repackaged from the listed picture to a more modern packaging.
The deodorant is a bullet shape tapered towards the top and it sits on its lid which is helpful as the product is always ready to use, even when you are down to the last dregs. The lid is blue and twists off easily and the applicator is a clear ball inside the white plastic body.
I have never had any problems with the ball freezing up so the ball applies just the right amount of anti perspirant every time. Some deodorants feel a bit stingy upon application but not this one. It feels a little bit wet for around 60 seconds so I usually try to wait before adding any layers of clothing to allow it time to dry.
This roll on has added vitamin e which is great for skin care in this area that is often neglected. My underarms were getting a bit dry from using Mitchum too much although I still like the results of it I thought I'd have a few weeks off from it. The Dove original smells great and fresh and not over perfumed which I dislike in a deodorant so all good there. The only bit I hate is the 48 hour claim that all anti perspirants seem to be claiming these days. I wish they would just leave it out as it's a bit gross wanting to last two days on the same pits. Washing should not be that much of an intrusion in our lives to warrant a 48 hour deodorant.
I paid around £1 for this and it would have been on offer at the time.
I do find the bullet shape a bit awkward to grasp at times and I quite liked the old curvy style but I do find it better when they stand on their heads so you're not waiting for the product to fall on to the ball before applying. The smell suits me just fine and I have not had any sweaty problems with this so I am happy that it works well even when you get a bit hot and bothered. Definitely one I would be happy to repurchase in the future with the added advantage of moisturising properties via the vitamin e inclusion.
I've used all kinds of rolls ons in the past and this has to be the nicest smelling out of all of them. The smell lasts all day and night which is ideal, but the only problem I had was that it didn't dry on your underarms very quickly - in fact it took over ten minutes which if you're rushing around trying to get ready, isn't ideal!
I have extremely sensitive skin so usually opt for sensitive products, however after picking up the original version by mistake and using it anyway I found I had no problems with itching or rashes so have kept on using this instead of buying a sensitive less nicer smelling version.
I picked this up in a discount health and beauty shop for £1.05 which is a bargain compared to buying it in major retailers. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes roll ons!
~The look of the product~
This 50ml bottle differs from the one shown, it now has a more modern look. Much like the newer ones, the lid is the bottom of the product and is an transparent navy blue colour, the remainder of the bottle is white. The front of the bottle features the blue Dove label with the gold dove underneath, on the front is the description, " Original. Anti-Perspirant deodorant. 0% Alcohol, 24h (as in 24 hour lasting) and the tear-drop with 1/4 (1/4 moisturisation) The back of the product features the pull up labels, the underneath contains the contact details and also the information, "Do not apply to broken or irritated skin. Stop using if irritation occurs." The top of the label features a diagram on how to unscrew the lid?! That the product lasts for 24 months after opening and also the ingredients, "Aqua, Aluminum Chlorohydrate, Gelycerin, Helianthus Annus Seed Oil, Steareth-2, Parfum, Steareth-20, Citric Acid, Pottasium Lactate, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Salicylate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Citronellol, Geraniol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Hydroxycitronellal, Limonene, Linalool." A lot of not very nice sounding ingredients/chemicals. This very simple design and information on the bottle, it does not explain the labelling that is featured on the front.
~The price~ and ~Value for money~
Currently a 50ml bottle costs £1.90 from Boots (however I bought this in an emergency and it cost near £2.93!!!) A rough usage is 2ml for both arms which is around £0.08 which is good value for money for a deodorant........that's if it works (see personal experience)
~The smell~and~the look/feel of product~
I bought this product during an emergency when I forgot mine, I normally hate the smell of Dove as it reminds me of pot-pourri so the smell is not one that I can recommend. The look of the product is clear upon applying to the skin, the feel of the product is fairly thick and feels heavy upon the skin. It does not feel as though it is thick as in moisturising, but just heavy as in laden with skin filming products.
My personal experience with product is not one that I wish to repeat, first of all I find the smell very over powering, even when the lid is on and the product has not been applied I find the smell is still over powering. The deodorant is easier to apply with the roll on ball and did not get 'stuck' like some do. The product did feel heavy on the skin and I felt very little moisturising properties at all. The deodorant did not feel as though it was protecting me from the elements of perspiration of normal everyday life, I can assure that it did not last the full 24 hours of protection and this was very disappointing for the price they pay. I felt that the product did let the Dove branding down, the claims remained to be untrue and the smell is too overpowering and may clash with some perfumes
I would rate this product as 1/5 as it looks good, but smells horrible and doesn't really protect well. Please feel free to comment on anything you wish to know about the product but which I have not put in this review, I have tried to write about everything I would wish to know but a few things may have escaped my mind.
I have sensitive skin under my arms so I need to be selective about what I use. It's only a few roll-ons that don't cause me a rash and the Dove original Anti-Perspirant is one of them.
This product is really kind to the skin although it has a mild fragrance. The fragrance is so mild that my husband will sometimes borrow it when he can't find his own! (he won't be happy that i've said that!!). It doesn't contain alcohol.
The bottle/tube (whatever you call it) stands upright with the ball at the base, so there is no need to turn and shake before you use it, the contents is always on the ball ready for use. Great when you are rushing around in the morning!
The ball glides gently across the skin but beware, the skin does feel a little sticky and wet for a few minutes after application. Best to leave it a couple of minutes before dressing. The product is very effective, and I don't need to re-apply from one morning to the next.
The bottle is white with a blue cap at the base. The cap has a flat face which the bottle stands on. The white bottle has 'Dove' written in large writing, with 'original Anti-perspirant' in small writing underneath.
I'm not sure exactly how much this cost, but it wasn't anymore than a pound from Tesco. It can be found in all major stores.
Bought on offer at my local Home Bargains for just 99p! You can sometimes find it on offer for £1 at the supermarkets too. Usually priced between £1 - £2 when not on offer.
I have been an avid user of this deodorant for as long as I can remember. What I love most about it is the fact that it can be used straight after shaving my underarms. Due to is 0% alcohol content, it does not cause any stinging or irritation. I have quite sensitive skin and Dove has always been a trusted brand of mine. I have never had any problems with any of their products and this was no exception.
The bottle is much different to that pictured in the Dooyoo catalogue. It is more 'bullet' shaped, ergonomically designed for easy grip and usage. The bottle stands upside down so you never have any problems getting the product out unless its beginning to run out. Used on a very regular basis, these little deodorants seem to last forever. The only downside to the design is because of the solid white plastic you cannot see how much you have left. As with most cream based products, a lot of it will have been stuck to the sides; unfortunately, you cannot cut this tube to get at what has been left behind! (Unless you take a saw to it maybe?).
The roller ball design is fantastic. It glides on smoothly and easily, just be careful if you haven't used the product in a while as some of the crème can cause the ball to stick. You usually know when you are running out because the ball will not be completely covered and start to dry out - time to buy a new one!
Many people do not like the smell but I find it quite refreshing. It smells very clean and the smell does not last too long anyway. Just give it a chance to dry in slightly before popping on your top if it has sleeves, as some of the product will rub off!
It boasts 24hr protection but I would not agree. It does last several hours but I do find I need a reapplication part way through my day, especially if it is very warm or I have been rushing around (and I do not overly sweat). It is small enough though to pop in your bag for when you feel you need a top up.
I think this is a great product from the people at Dove; it is a timeless classic that anyone can use. It is a great little bargain find so stock up!
A nice packaging and ergonomic design for easy application makes it pleasant to use.
However on application the fragrance is overpowering and it takes a significant amount of time to disappear. I like my deodorants to have no fragrance or a very light one so that it does not overpower anything else I may be wearing, not so the case here as all I could smell was this.
The fragrance itself is slightly artificial with a soapy tang to it, which although not unpleasant in itself is not a fragrance I want to smell of all day.
Fragrance apart its a very effective anti perspirant and deodorant, I train every day and work in a physically demanding job, it coped extremely well in those circumstances, yet is soft and gentle on the skin with no drying out of the skin or rashes being caused which some harsher 'sports' deodorants can do to my skin.
Overall a very effective product let down by the overpowering fragrance.
I purchased Dove Original Anti-perspirant Deodorant Roll-on when I saw it on sale for just £1 a bottle. I found this to be an excellent deal and as I usually do like Dove products, particularly their body wash and lotions, I thought this would be a good product. I was right about that.
I have had problems in the past with deodorants that are too strong for my skin. Some that work extremely well actually work too well for me and I have found myself with dry and itchy armpits on a few occasions - very embarassing when I find I can't stop myself and have to scratch under my arms like a monkey does just to relieve the itching!
So I was a bit hesitant at first to try this product. However, I needn't have worried. This product is very light and although it does work, it doesn't over do it. Also it contains 0% alchohol which probably helps avoid allergic reactions.
This product goes on quite wet but does dry fairly quickly. I haven't had any problems with it staining my clothes when I put them on right after applying this. The scent is pleasant and quite like talcum powder but not very strong.
This product claims to work 24h but I don't think that is true. I usually shower in the evening and apply this, then wake up in the morning and am a tiny bit smelly I have to admit, so I then wash my underarms and reapply. So it does work, but it doesn't completely avoid you from getting a bit smelly if you sweat. I don't find this lasts through a workout, however.
You can generally find this on sale for £1 and when you do, stock up. This product is particularly effective for those with sensitive skin who don't sweat much.
Dove deodorant is one of the best on the market. This being the original is, for me, the best out of the dove range.
To date, I have yet to find a more creamier underarm roll on.The deodarant glides on with no fuss at all and makes my underarms feel really smooth. It smells fantastic too, a bit like the dove soap bar but with possibly a little more scent.
I've never had a wet patch when using dove. The product tackles perspiration really well.
Its very important to make sure the product dries properly and that can take longer than other anti perspirants, possibly because it is a creamy formula. Once dried however the underarms feel very very soft.
It is, I feel, a must have product for all those ladies who want protection but without feeling like cactus' Other roll on formulas leave underarms white and feeling rough. But not with dove, you get exactly whats written on the pack.
I have found this dove roll very effective. First of all, the deodrant ball is very easy to use, it ensures a smooth application, with just the right amount that you need. It also has a very prominent smell, so it definitely tackles the odour problem. Many roll on's fragrances don't last that long, but with dove the fragrance definitely does last all day, so you have no worries about not smelling nice when you're wearing and makes you feel confident that you smell good.
Furthermore, i have found dove very moisturing for my skin, however a negative aspect about this product is that it is sometimes slightly sticky on my skin, which isn't that comfortable. It also takes a while to dry, so you need to keep busy whilst it dries, which can be time consuming if you're in a rush. In conclusion, dove anti-perspirant is very good to tackle odour, but if you want a 'quick' morning freshen up, then i would not suggest this roll on.
As a rule I have always used Avon Roll On and have always found them very good, normally I will stock up on them however found myself runing out recently and realising I hadn't got any left.
Off to the local shop, they hadn't really got a great to choose from and only had the Dove Go Fresh Roll on in Grapefruit and Lemongrass scent (the picture above isn't the product that I am reviewing but have been redirected to this link).
The product itself looks very nice, a little bit different to above. It comes in a white container with a yellow lid on it and actually stands on the lid as it moves to a point at the end. On the front of the product it has the Dove logo, a picture of a grapefruit and a picture of a piece of grass. The pacakging itself is really very attractive.
The product says that it will keep you dry for at least 24 hours. These sort of claims always make me think twice and majority of the time they never seem to ring true, so with the weather being how it is at the moment, really hot, I guess its the best time to see how a product like this works.
When you remove the lid, the smell of this is really very pleasant, the worst thing you could have is bad smelling product. This never smells of grapefruit or lemon, in my opinion, it just smells of a sweet deodorant with no actual scent of what the ingredients should be, however this did not bother me as it does smell really very nice.
Does it work?
THe first time I used this, we went out on a ten mile walk, so if it wasn't going to work then this would have been the best day to see what results I got from it. Applying a small amount underneath the arms, I found that the smell of the product lingered all day which was nice, and although I had walked ten miles in the blazing heat, when I got home, I was still as dry as when I left for the day, which really impressed me.
This product cost 1.49 from the local corner shop so probably a little more expensive than supermarkets. I would definitely recommend this to any female that wants a decent roll on in which smells nices and lasts all day long. A great product.
The actual brand name is Dove Go Fresh Range, and the do this is a couple of different frangrances.
I was glad to read that others are having the same problems I am with the Dove invisible solid anti-perspirant. I was thrilled to see the product was fragrance free but unfortunately it has stained my tops and bra and isn't doing much to control underarm odor. This is unfortunate as I want to buy DOVE products. I will try other Dove products in the hopes that they work better than this one.
Effective protection all day long whilst the cream takes care of your skin / Only Dove offers the most effective ingredients to give you maximum dry protection, balanced with 1/4 moisturising cream which takes care of your skin
