As a Bzz Agent, I recently got selected as part of the dove compressed antiperspirant deodorant campaign, to trial dove for them. I was given 2 variants of the dove compressed deodorant, and this review is for the dove original.
There are lots of brand such as dove, sure, Vaseline and lynx, which have all compressed their cans, and they claim:
Compressed deodorants deliver the same protection, but due to an innovative new spray system they require less gas in each spray. With less gas needed, the can is smaller but still contains the same amount of deodorant. That means it will last just as long as your normal can, even in the smaller size.
As well as small cans being more convenient for you, they are also significantly better for the environment, Compressed deodorants use, on average, 50% less gas and approximately 25% less aluminium than normal.
You are able to buy these from most supermarkets or places like boots and superdrug for around £3.25, but it is on offer at most places at 2 for £4.
I have not used a spray deodorant for some time, as I was finding my skin was getting sore so I began using roll-on and have done for a few years, so I was quite nervous about trying this.
The dove original comes in a 125ml spray can with a blue lid, its a white can with dove written on with a small picture of a ripped water on it, it says it lasts for 48 hours (I have not tested this) and has 0% alcohol in it.
The can is very compacted and would be ideal to take away on holidays or weekends away, as this would take up less room then normal size cans. The can is about the same size of a body spray but a little more chunkier so you could even pop this into your handbag without it taking up to much room.
Using the deodorant, you do as you would any other can, it sprays out like normal cans do with the same amount, however I did find I was not using enough the first few days, so I would start to get a bit sweaty under the arms and would have to apply a bit more later during the day, but I think that is down to not remembering how much to use, because when I apply in the mornings now I do not have this problem and feel fresh all day since using more of the deodorant.
The deodorant doesn't leave a white coating under my armpit either, which is a problem I did use to get when using deodorants in the past. I have not found that it leaves any white marks on my clothes either, which is great.
There is not much scent to this deodorant, but it does smell a bit dove like. It does leave an after smell in the room after you have sprayed it just like all deodorants.
I have found dove to be soft and mild to my underarms and I think I would be able to use this for the rest of my life without having armpit irritation again, as I said before I stopped using these sprays as they was causing dryness and making my armpits sore.
I have been using this can for over two weeks now and there has feels like there's about half a can left, so this size can will probable last me a month, as I cant comment on how long dove use to last, I still think this is good value for money especially if I can buy these on offer.
I will defiantly be using dove deodorants again.
Everyone likes to smell nice, or at least everyone I like to spend time with smells nice. My daily routine involves having a shower and then a quick squirt of antiperspirant to keep me feeling and smelling shower fresh all day long.
One of the deodorants in my toiletries basket is Dove Original antiperspirant, I am favouring this one at the moment as I love its clean soapy scent and I like the added protection of antiperspirant.
Dove antiperspirant is housed in a nice white can with the distinctive blue Dove name and logo clearly visible on the front. The can has a pull off plastic lid and a no nonsense spray button.
Dove is applied in the usual way, give the can a good shake and then spray it onto your underarms. Dove contains ¼ moisturiser and this does leave my underarms feeling soft and smooth and I have no stinging issues with this antiperspirant when using immediately after shaving/waxing.
Dove usually keeps me feeling and smelling fresh and clean but just lately with this warm weather it has had its work cut out for it and usually needs a quick reapplication half way through the day to keep me feeling at my best.
All things considered I will continue to use Dove antiperspirant but I would not trust it to keep me fresh and dry when exercising. I do like the soapy clean scent and it works well with Doves other shower/beauty products.
Thank you for reading.
I always buy Dove soap and deodorants as I find them gentle on my skin and moisturising. There is quite a big range of these dove antiperspirants available these days, some for sensitive skin or with different scents and ingredients but I find there is so much to choose from that I don't know what to go for and always end up getting the old original.
I prefer the aerosol to the roll on deodorants in general as I find them quicker to apply and faster to dry.
This Dove antiperspirant smells like most of the original Dove products, which is a clean soapy kind of scent. I find that the scent is long lasting and I can still smell it after a days work.
The can is white with a blue plastic lid. The one I usually get is 150ml and is £1.93 in Boots at the moment. It is a little more expensive than many anti perspirants but it is worth paying the extra as it lasts all day long so the can lasts much longer than one I may have to spray a few times throughout the day. There is also a travel size 35ml can which can be bought for under £1 and is very small and easy to put in your handbag for a weekend away. The dove original roll on is also small, smells the same and is long lasting.
I do find this deodorant tends to leave white marks on my clothing so I have to make sure it is dry and be careful when wearing dark clothing. I think this seems to last longer than most deodorants and the smell isn't floral or anything so it doesn't clash with the smell of any perfume I am wearing.
I have never found this spray to irritate my skin and I don't get dry or itchy underarms after using it.
This is a brand I think is consistently good and feel is better quality than cheaper anti perspirants. It is often on offer so I tend to stock up when I see a good deal.
For a while after moving to London, I struggled to find a really reliable deodorant - this was something which was more necessary in the hot London summers than it was in Aberdeen. Some deodorants would stop any smell, but I would still sweat; others would be the opposite, stopping sweating but still giving off a bit of odour. Sure was a particular offender - despite its popularity, it did not stop me sweating in summer, left white marks on my clothing, and gave off a bit of an odd smell as the day wore on, a smell which I couldn't describe but which was clearly from the deodorant rather than me.
Anyway, a few years ago I received a sample of Dove deodorant to test. The Dove spray range comes in rather nice cans, pleasantly shaped with a matte rather than shiny feel, and a lid - not always included on spray deodorants. There are a variety of fragrances, several of which I have tried and liked, but my favourite is the original fragrance, which has a dark blue lid.
When spraying on the Dove deodorant, it does give off a bit of a cloud, but compared to some deodorants (stand up Nivea), it isn't too bad and is easily bearable - it doesn't make me cough and splutter.
The scent of the deodorant is pleasant and not overpowering, even when it is first sprayed. It isn't a floral or fruity smell, rather a sweet, unidentifiable scent - I want to describe it as powdery, perhaps it reminds me slightly of talcum powder. It is a nice scent, and one which I get gentle and pleasant whiffs of throughout the day.
But how does the Dove deodorant perform on a hot London summer's day? In a nutshell, excellently. It keeps my underarms almost always dry, so I have no damp patches on my clothes, and it doesn't leave white marks. I say almost always as no deodorant is completely infallible in my experience, and even Dove seems to be beaten by me standing in mid-afternoon sunlight for too long in temperatures over 30C, or a tube train which is held stationery in a tunnel for 20 minutes. As for odour, I very rarely notice any unpleasant odours when I have used Dove deodorant - instead, as I mentioned earlier, I get nice whiffs of the deodorant itself.
I am now a loyal customer of Dove deodorants, and no longer switch deodorants depending on what is on offer - as I know I'm unlikely to find anything which performs better, or even as well, as Dove.
~~Dove original spray~~
The dove original spray comes in a white 150ml spray bottle, with a royal blue lid. The packaging is simple but effective as it is easy to see that it belongs to the well-known brand Dove. The front of the bottle contains the icon for Dove, alongside useful information; that is contains vitamin E and F I'm unsure why you would need vitamins in your deodorant, perhaps to care for your skin? It also states that it contains 0% alcohol, and that it claims to last for 24 hours. The back of the bottle gives extensive details of the ingredients which make up the product, along with contact information should you have any problems/queries in relation to the product, and finally it gives the product danger information (flammable, like most deodorant sprays).
The product is highly effective, it leaves you feeling fresh throughout the day, however, I cannot tell you whether it last 24 hours as I don't go that long without showering. The spray if not shaken before use can cause the typical white marks however, with a brisk wipe the marks will become unnoticeable. I wouldn't see this as a disadvantage as the majority of products of this nature also have the same problem, which is due to the ingredients in the product that dry out the sweat. It does stop you from sweating but this is perhaps due to its talc like nature, I do prefer this product to many of its sister-products as it does keep you fresh all day without the need to re-spray. It has also softened my skin and has a nice subtle smell of soap, which is a nice clean smell to be associated with. I would say it smells just like the Dove original soap but not as strong, you don't need to have a strong smelling deodorant spray to keep you smelling fresh, it is obvious but pleasant and definitely not over powering.
This product can be quite expensive when it is not on offer, so I would therefore recommend shopping around to get the best deal. As of today (31/07/12) the prices are as followed:
Dove - 150 ml bottle currently £2.89 at Boots or 289 advantage points
Dove contains 1/4 moisturising cream so it is soft on your skin.
This product is available from many stores including supermarkets, and is very often on offer. At one of the large supermarkets I recently got 2 for £3 - I can't remember which it was sorry.
The product comes in a range of 'scents' and the original smells a little like fresh linen to me. It is a clean smell, and the antiperspirant is nice and long lasting. A bottle of Dove for me lasts a little longer than some other deodorants as you do not feel the need to use as much of it to get e lasting effect.
I have incredibly sensitive skin under my arms, and have in the past gotten eczema there - an experience I never want to repeat. So I tend to be very careful what deodorants I will use, and I am paranoid about an allergic reaction. I am less likely to get one with a shower gel I think as they get washed off. However having said that I have never had any issues with Dove. It keeps me smelling fresh all day, and has never caused a reaction.
Personally I feel that this is one of the more versatile scents that Dove have out, and to me it just smells of 'fresh linen' so it can be worn with a perfume.
My mom regularly buys Dove anti-perspirant deodorants when they're on offer, so when I had the opportunity to trial the original I jumped at the chance to get some free, high quality deodorant spray, especially to use at university.
The Dove Original Anti-Perspirant Deodorant Spray comes in a long bottle of either 150ml or 250ml, with my review based on the former. It generally costs around £2-3 from the supermarkets but may be on offer for as little as £1 which is a very reasonable price. The design of the packaging is pretty plain with the typical white background for Dove product, the Dove logo for the top, the product name in the middle and nothing much else. The spray claims it has0% alcohol, contains Vitamins E and F and will keep your underarms dry and fresh for 24 hours. You spray by pressing down the blue top at the end facing downwards (this may sound unnecessary to tell people, but I pressed the whole top when using the product for the first time and got a bit confused!).
I tend to use this spray after my shower in the morning and/or shaving and it works very well. It has a very light fragrance that doesn't clog the room or overpower your sense of smell compared to some cheaper brands. My underarms don't feel wet or sensitive after using it but very smooth and delicate as if I've applied moisturiser to them, so it's a very nice feeling to have in the morning before you put your clothes on! They do stay dry for a long time throughout the day although I haven't done anything that's caused me to work up a real sweat just yet, but I would say that it keeps sweat away during the hustle and bustle of work and play.
The only downside with this product is that spraying it too close will give you noticeable white marks. It's a usual problem with deodorant sprays but you'd expect a quality brand like Dove to be a better at tackling this. All I can say is make sure to use the spray at a decent distance from your underarms unless you want white powder getting on your clothes!
This Dove anti-perspirant is great to use for day-to-day activities as it keeps your underarms dry without needing a choking scent to cover it up. I'd definitely use the spray again and very much recommend it!

Dove is a well-known brand and products range from soap, to moisturisers, to shampoos, to deodorants. I have always been impressed by the quality of Dove branded products and so I had no qualms about trying the deodorant range. The types of deodorant they produce vary including roll-on, stick and spray.
I purchased the anti-antiperspirant spray from Boots. It retails at £2.15 but is frequently on offer. At the moment (12/04) it is buy two for £3.
The bottle is standard of a spray and contains 150ml of product. Again the packaging and design is equivalent to all Dove products. The spray pump is easy to use and distributes the smell evenly.
The fragrance is fresh and along th same creamy/soap smell of all Dove products. This I love, I think the smell of Dove products is divine and makes you feel clean and fresh.
One of the downsides for me is that when it is sprayed, now matter how much I use, it ALWAYS gets into the back of my throat and feels like it is burning it and I can't breathe. I have to go through a daft procedure where I spray it in one part of the room whilst holding my breath and then have to continue to get dressed in a different part of the room- ridiculous really!
Another downside is that, although it doesn't leave white marks, I have noticed it can be quite powdery and can drop residue just after spraying.
The major downside of this product is that although it claims to give 24 hour deodorant protection, I find that it just does not and I find I can be a bit whiffy after a vigorous workout which is very embarrassing :-(
After so many negatives, I feel like I should end the review on a positive...it does contain 1/4 moisturising cream and so is kind to the skin.
Dove has been around for many many years now, and the smell of the original anti-perspriant seems to be as good as ever. I often buy Dove sets for Christmas (and recently received one as a present and it contained a tiny version of this - and it brought back many memories!
The product - The deodorant is easy to spot from the others and comes in one of the most iconic bottles! It is a white bottle, which a blue plastic pull off cap, which has a spray underneath. It has an image on the front which appears on all dove products (the drop in water), and comes in 3 different sizes. 35ml, 100ml and 250ml. I keep the 35ml bottle in my hand bag because I don't use this as my main deodorant just as a handy refreshing spray to use throughout the day.
I find that this spray is very moisturising, especially after shaving - but that is what its intention is for anyway, as it prides itself on being the only deodorant around with 1/4 moisturising cream - so that underarm skin stays soft and smooth. I do think that it offers this softness, but also the smell is very appealing - but can outweigh perfume it is strong. It is definitely suitable for sensitive skin, but there are other products that are suitable if suffering from extra sensitive skin.
Dove comes in a wide range of products, not just sticks but creams, body washes/shower gels, roll ons, soaps and is fine for male and female use.
Cost --> The 35ml bottle costs around 35p (from Asda) but this is usually on offer for a few bottles for a £1. The other bottles can sometimes be on offer from £1.50-£2. But generally the 100ml bottle costs about £2.50 when not on offer. I find that the smaller bottle usually lasts 6-8 weeks - depending on usage of course.
As a handy spray to keep on you that smells lovely (especially after a hard day at work) it is so brilliant to just spray away and make you feel much fresher and better about yourself. I wouldn't use this deodorant as my main one, because I use one that offers extra protection for 48 hours, but use this because I sometimes like a refreshing lift at the end of the day that smells great and keeps you bad odour free!
This is a really good deodrant.
I paid £1.50 for it which is a very good price for a deodrant spray and it is a good size tin so is good value for money.
I really like the smell of Dove products and this is no exception. It has a lovely fresh clean smell of soap but is not flowery or overpowering. The smell is also really nice because it lasts a long time and even at the end of the day I can still smell the Dove smell so I know that it is still working.
I have sensative skin which can sometimes sting when using deodrant but this is very kind and gentle to my underarms and never makes me skin sting even when I use it straight after shaving which makes it very pleasant to use. The spray is nice because it doesn't leave a powder or white marks but is also not sticky either and just leaves my underarms feeling cool, fresh and moisturised.
I find that I don't need to use much for this to work for me so the tin lasts me a long time. Also it works all day after one spray in the morning so I don't need to reapply it.
The only downside to it is that on very hot days I still get damp patches whilst using it although it still makes me smell nice but I have found this problem with most deodrants so will still continue to use this one during winter.
A good deodrant at a good price.
I do like the Original smell of Dove Deodorant. It just smells so simple and Creamy, Although I probably don't use this one that much, I should buy it more often. It doesn't seem to be on offer as much as other brands through, which is probably where my penny pinching ways come in.
This comes in a 150ml tin and costs around £1.80. There is nothing fancy about the tin, it is just like the Dooyoo picture. A plain white tin with blue writing on it, and a large enough blue lid. You can get this in the spray version or the Roll On Deodorant as well.
This comes out in more a thick spray than a really fine spray but it isn't cloudy or cloggy. I don't choke on this anyway. I hate when Deodorants come out in a powdery cloud. The smell of this is like the Dove Soap. Some people may not like the stronger smell of this, and although it does smell quite strong when first applied to you, it does die down a bit, and settles to not quite a strong smell. You can smell this scent through the day and I find that if I get that bit warmer then the smell seems to get a bit stronger.
This keeps me fresh and dry through the day. It seems to do a good job of keeping the moisture away and the scent lingering is nice as well. Just wished this was on offer more, but it seems to hold it's price well.
I like the Dove range and I would recommend this if you like a simple, Creamy smelling Deodorant.
There are lots of anti - perspirants on the market and it is quite hard to choose which one to buy, especially if they are on special offer and this is one of the ones I use on a regular basis as I think it is very good value for money and it works for me perfectly and I am happy with the results it gives.
It comes in a can and it has a pull off top and it is an attractive can and it has a spray nozzle to disperse the spray onto the skin and all that is needed is a quite spray and it dries nicely and leaves a good barrier on the skin to keep my under arms nice and dry for the day, I have not needed a top up with this one as I have with other brands, this one keeps me nice and fresh all day and it has a really nice fragrance to it too and smells beautiful.
It is a very fine mist when sprayed and dries in no time and it does not irritate the skin or make it itch as I have found some other products to do to my skin, I have found others quite itchy after use but this one does not have that effect for my skin and I have very sensitive skin.
It has ¼ moisturiser in the spray and so it leaves the skin nice and soft, with a lovely barrier to protect and keep smooth at the same time and most of all it keeps me dry and it works well for me too.
I have used this one after I have shaved under my arms the previous day and it was perfectly fine and I have never had a rash or irritation at all and I have not had any tingling effects either with this brand.
In my opinion Dove work very hard with all of their products and I have never been disappointed with any of them and the same applies with this one, I am delighted with the results.
This is also Dermatologically tested and I recommend it for anyone to give it a try and for a 150ml can it usually costs me just over £2 and I have often bought it on special offer and so look for the offers and save some more money for a very good quality spray with a beautiful fragrance too and which works.
I give this 5 stars.
This has to be the absulute ultimate in deodorants, yes?
I'll be honest with you now, and I don't mind telling you that I no longer use any other deodorant. Fo' real. You can pick this bad boy up for around £2 per 150ml, and I find that you can often get buy one get one free offers, which make it even cheaper!
I love that the range contains several different variants, including the Invisible, designed to leave no white marks, and the new ones that claim to reduce your underarm hair after a while. The others in the range (there are around 8, all together) seem mostly to simply be fragrance variations, which is nice, as you can get bored with the scent, and a change is as good as a rest!
I do always come back to this original scent, I think the only real reason is that I don't feel 'clean' unless I'm using Dove. The scent just reminds me of freshness, and I love that I can usually smell it all day long.
It works hard too, like I said I can smell it all day long, I never feel sweaty or uncomfortable. I walk to work, even on really hot days, so it's nice to know that I can rely on my deodorant to get me there nice and dry...
In short, it gives great performance, and as it's Dove, it contains a 1/4 moisturising cream, so you know it won't leave your underarms irritated or dry.
I bought this about a week ago, as I was getting a bit bored of the roll on dove, and just fancied a change.
I purchased this from Sainsburys and it cost £1.98. I'm sure you can probably get it cheaper at other stores, I have seen this in places like pound land from time to time so it might be worth shopping around for, but I got it from Sainsburys purely for convenience.
The bottle looks a bit different now, it has a slight curve in it and more of a matte finish to it, but it's still the same colours.
I went for original as I really like this scent in the roll on. The smell is very soapy but fresh and clean, and it's a very light smell. If you spray it too much though it can get in your throat a bit, but that's the same with most spray deodorants I find.
I actually think this might be better for me than the roll on. I have quite sensitive under arms, and I think this has actually made a difference already. The dove roll on is still great but I have seen more of an improvement with this.
Not only does it smell great, and it's gentle on under arms, it actually made me feel fresher for longer. I found that the roll on always made me feel a bit sticky but this makes me feel dry and fresh, and you do get wafts of it, throughout the day.
As for white marks, I haven't noticed any on my clothes as yet, but that doesn't mean they don't happen. I think most deodorants, no matter what they claim, cause white marks, but they usually just wipe off, so I never see them as much of a problem.
I would really recommend this, for a fresh clean smell, and just as a summer deodorant. I am really liking it at the moment.
I've stated many times in reviews, particularly on toiletries, that I'm not exactly brand loyal.
There are certain brands I trust and tend to buy frequently, but also I'm quite willing to try different brands and this is what's brought me to this review..
When it comes to deodorants, I know anything by Sure is normally a winner for me. On a recent shopping trip, I saw this Anti Perspirant Deodorant by Dove on offer at only £1 so immediately popped some in my basket. I've used other items in the Dove range (Shampoos and shower creams) but strangely not tried their deodorants.
Price and packaging~
This particular deodorant comes housed in a 150ml size can, which is predominately white with bold blue lettering. It has a large plastic spray nozzle underneath a dark blue lid. Altogether the appearance of this shouts 'clean and fresh'.
I paid just £1 as it was on offer, although the RRP is normally at least double that so shop around as you may be paying more for it than you need to.
Using the spray~
Nothing too technical here - you simply hold approximately 15cm's from your under arm area after shaking the can vigorously, and spray.
The usual applies here as it does to most deodorants: Don't spray on broken skin; avoid the eye/face area and stop using if you develop a rash etc.
You know the routine people so I don't need to state the obvious.
My experience of using this~
On first removing the lid, I sprayed a tiny amount under my arm.
It came out in a fine white mist and felt cold, but strangely moisturising.
On applying to both arms several times I was pleased to see that it didn't 'cake' off in clumps as some sprays do so that won marks for me straight away.
It didn't sting on application either despite using after a shower where I'd shaved my under arm area, so again, points were scored.
Did it work?~
Dove states it gives 24 hour protection and is the only one of it's kind to contain 1/4 moisturising cream. It promises that even after shaving it will leave the area soft and smooth.
I was impressed with this deodorant as it did indeed leave my under arms feeling softer and smelling wonderful. The scent is typical Dove and is exactly the same as other products in the range - clean, fresh and soft.
It didn't cause any rashes luckily, as having tried a different brand a few weeks back which I had a nasty reaction to (Imperial Leather Roll On - see separate review) I was dubious about swapping from my safety zone of using Sure.
Having tried this first thing in the morning I kept regularly checking if I still smelt fresh. As I do a lot of walking back and forth on the school run a good deodorant is vital and this certainly did the trick.
It kept my skin dry, fresh and smelling shower fresh all day so what more can I ask for?
If you haven't tried this yet then I would certainly urge you to give it a go - especially when on offer. A few squirts seem sufficient to keep you fresh all day so a can does last a while. The only trouble now is my husband has started using it after showering so will have to stock up more frequently.
Fantastic deodorant from a trusted brand - something I will definitely buy again.
